Starting With Contract Pets Chapter 74

“Okay, next. Let’s talk about the rules of this new class, including arranging a class monitor.”

After finishing the roll call and confirming that all the students were present, Wang Wenyi proceeded with admin affairs.

“First of all, we must choose a new class monitor. Chen Rouxue and Shi Lei held that position in their respectives classes. Who wants to be one this time?” Wang Wenyi glanced at the students.

“I want!” Shi Lei quickly raised his hand.

“I don’t.” Chen Rouxue quickly refused.

The boy looked over in surprise. He even had a spiel ready to fight for the role, yet it actually was not needed?

“Okay, Shi Lei will be the class monitor? Does anyone else want to compete for the role?”

Wang Wenyi glanced at everyone. When no one raised their hand, the new class monitor was determined to be the youth.

Immediately afterward, they elected the other class leaders in the same way.

“As for the subject monitor, I’ll leave selecting to the respective teachers. Chen Rouxue will be the subject monitor of my pet training class.”

The homeroom teacher paused for a while before she continued speaking. “I’ll send the timetable to the class later; you can check it yourself. Let me tell you a few more important things.

“First, the college entrance examination in June next year will determine your destiny. The examination is divided into two parts: theory and actual combat. I hope that you won’t just rely on your theory to obtain more points. As a Pet Tamer, you must work hard to obtain a high score in both areas.

“As for the actual combat, as long as you follow my plan and training, your results won’t be too bad. The most important thing is to prepare well for the college entrance examination.

“Second, the school’s subsidy is given to the top twenty of each grade every month. They’ll receive cultivation subsidies of varying amounts, issued by the Spirit Alliance.

“The school rules state that the subsidies must be distributed based on test scores. There are different types of tests at the end of each month. The first placer will receive 250,000 yuan, the second 200,000 yuan, the third 150,000 yuan, and so on. Thus, if you want to obtain rewards, you’ll need to work harder.

“Third, the five schools’ joint examination is coming in October. It is an annual big competition for all high schools in Cannes. Students in the champion school will get the chance to enter the monster wilderness.

“Although the monster wilderness is dangerous, it provides many opportunities and is key to improving one’s strengths. Our school hasn’t won a place for three consecutive years, so I encourage everyone to strive for getting a placement.

“If you win, you’ll not only get the opportunity to enter the monster wilderness, your school will also give you a large bonus as a reward. Later, you’ll have a special teacher help you in the wilderness, and the remuneration is very generous, so everyone should strive hard for it.”

Their teacher pushed her gold-frame glasses and smiled softly.

“I originally wanted to relax, but our school is actually giving out bonuses! I can’t believe that there’s such a measure in place. I can predict how every end-of-month test will be bloody stormy,” exclaimed Chen Rouxue.

“I recall that the previous reward mechanics weren’t the same. The school has changed it this time; it seems that they’re determined to stimulate us. The sum of 250,000 yuan can buy a lot of materials for cultivating pets.”

Su Bai nodded, feeling shocked as well. “This time, everybody will fight for the prize without mercy. I won’t show you mercy even to you, either.”

“I was just about to say that. That 250,000 yuan is mine; I have no family in the face of poverty.” The girl clenched her fists.

Jiang Yang: “Yang Zhou, draw your sword. I have no family in the face of poverty.”

…

This bunch of students were all flushed with excitement. This kind of reward was really stimulating. This class filled with top students was naturally determined to compete for this reward.

For a while, the atmosphere in the classroom became a little serious.

“Actually, compared to this, the rewards for topping the five schools’ exam are obviously better. We can even go to the monster wilderness; I actually prefer that reward.”

Su Bai gave the instructions.

“We’ll have to work hard for five schools’ joint entrance examination this year, too. You must’ve forgotten that we provoked a lot of people from other schools in the previous competition. I’m guessing that they’ll make things difficult for us when we meet.”

Chen Rouxue shook her head and sighed. Their cherry-picking strategy had made a deep impression on the water-fire twins and many others.

“F*ck, you two need to carry the classmates in the whole grade. We’ll definitely be beaten to death by the other four schools.”

Yang Zhou suddenly felt a toothache. If the water-fire twins and the others knew that he had such a close relationship with Su Bai, he would surely be hunted everywhere.

“F*ck, you both really have to compensate us. This is too difficult on us; we already have a lot of inexplicable hatred on our backs even before the start of the exam.” Jiang Yang carefully thought about it and was shocked at the difficulty.

The five schools’ joint entrance exam was a big competition. The system for it was not a kind of arena but rather a game similar to PlayerUnknown’s battlegrounds.

The high school sophomores in the pet departments of all five schools would be put into a fixed field, and victory would be decided by the number of defeated people and wild monsters.

Having offended people from several other schools in the previous competition, Su Bai and the others would be isolated even before the game began.

It was a hellish start.

“D*mn you. Why should I compensate for the hatred?” The boy indifferently and disdainfully glanced at his friends.

“F*ck! You’re crazy…”

Ding dong!

Just when the discussion was getting intense, the bell rang to mark the end of class.

“Class is dismissed; you can do your activities.”

After class, the students discussed among themselves animatedly. At first, everyone was a little shy, but soon they became bold and started to chat passionately.

“Howl~ (✪ω✪)”

Su Bai touched the cub and fed it food. Purple Jade immediately rubbed itself happily on the youth’s hand like a kitten.

“Hehehe!”

Suddenly, a blood-basin mouth came from the tabletop and swallowed the cub as well as Su Bai’s hand.

Taken aback, he felt a cold wind spread toward his hands.

“Howl! (`ー ́)”

The cub howled angrily, but its voice was very weak, seemingly coming from underwater. Suddenly, the fragrance of flowers wafted, and the body of Big Demon instantly softened. It turned into its main body and fell asleep on the table.

Slam!

Purple Jade smashed it against the wall with a fierce swipe of its paw and then bounced back to continue hitting it. It became excited after realizing that the demon could be played with like a ball.

Its eyes even lit up.

“How much Hypnotic Powder did your pet give my Xiao Bai?!” Chen Rouxue was startled, but she did not really care. She had no objection to punishing her pet for his mischief.

“I’m unsure.” The youth shrugged and turned to her. “What class is next?”

“It’s a training course, and the teacher is our former English teacher.” She looked at her phone.

“Oh, then the next class will probably be fun.” Nodding, the boy turned off his phone, not wanting the cub to play with it.

“By the way, I want to take a pharmacist exam. Can you teach me some knowledge in that area?”

“Of course.” Su Bai nodded and took his pet back to give it a comic book.

“Jiang Yang, Yang Zhou, didn’t you guys participate in the selection for the spring festival competition? How was it?” he suddenly asked.

“F*ck! My water attribute Little Conch met Wang Er’s Electric Python and was doomed,” exclaimed Yang Zhou in grief and anger.

“I was doomed, too. My pet was defeated by the new class monitor’s Little Rock Monster in the last round. His pet’s cultivation is better than mine, so I lost to him.” Jiang Yang shrugged while frowning.

While they chatted happily, the new class monitor Shi Lei walked over and said, “Big bosses Su Bai and Chen Rouxue, hello. Please give me more advice in the future and forgive me if I do something wrong.”

“It’s fine. You’re the class monitor, so we’ll listen to you.” This group of friends quickly shook their heads.

“Oh, I see.” The new class monitor nodded. “In that case, I hope you’ll pay more attention in the future not to take the lead in speaking in class. In the whole morning self-study, you four were the noisiest. I’ve already noted your names, so if you commit the same mistake next time, it’s okay to punish you to sweep the floor, right?”

“The self-study teacher didn’t say anything, so why should we?” Chen Rouxue frowned, feeling that he was being too petty.

“I’m just informing you beforehand. The ethos of the class must first be grasped from discipline.” Shi Lei shook his head and pointedly looked at Su Bai and Chen Rouxue.

“It’s best not to have a relationship in high school. Even if you are in one, don’t display it in the class and influence others. Otherwise, I might report it to the teaching office.”

He then turned and left.

Su Bai: “???”

“Is he okay? The new boss is trying to crack the whip, eh? Is he setting an example with us?” The youth glanced at her.

“I heard that his previous class was very somber, with no one talking even after class. It turned out to be because of him.” She suddenly regretted giving up the position of class monitor.

“Actually, I wanted to tell you earlier that Shi Lei shouldn’t be the class monitor.” Yang Zhou glanced in the direction where their new prefect left.

Jiang Yang also nodded. “He used to be my class monitor in my freshman year, and he always tattled to the teachers even about trivial matters. Whenever a girl and boy got closer, regardless of their relationship, he would report it directly to the school’s disciplinary department.”

“Oh, there’s one more thing; I don’t know if you guys noticed it, but besides holding the class monitor position, the discipline, life, health, and sports committees are all overseen by people from his original class.” Chen Tingting looked at the others.

“What the f*ck! Is it that important to be a monitor? Have they been conspiring on this for a long time? Wouldn’t our future be depressing, then?” Yang Zhou suddenly woke up and realized that this could be a conspiracy.

“It looks like that guy wants to take over power, but it doesn’t matter. Strength is always the last word; scholarships and everything else depend on strength. As long as we’re strong enough, he can’t do anything to us.” Chen Rouxue sighed. They could not avoid meeting such a classmate.

“Howl!”

The cub bared its teeth with a super fierce look. Kill! Kill them all; kill everyone who bullies my Ah Bai!

“Don’t be like this; it’s a small thing.” The boy shrugged helplessly.

“Howl! ( ̄へ ̄)”

“Class is starting!” Chen Rouxue announced and quickly woke Xiao Bai up. She gave it a cultivating manual so that it would realize that pets must learn to nurture themselves.

“Hehe!”

Big Demon ate it in one big bite.

“Spit that out!”

Her face turned dark, and she reached into its mouth to grab the nurturing manual, which was now full of saliva. Wiping it dry with a tissue paper, she fiercely chided her pet.

The class bell rang and their former English teacher walked in. The pet following her was not her warlord Polyursus but rather a ghost with a wood attribute; it was a very rare pet which had the ability to store knowledge.

“Class begins…”

“From now on, I’ll be your cultivation teacher. I’ve taught many of you before. My surname is Hou, and I believe that you know me.

“I hope that, in the future, everyone can study the pointers of this cultivation class seriously. Be it a pet or a person, don’t go to sleep in my class, or you’ll likely have nightmares. My Wood Specter is best at entering dreams.

“Some of you may even have a dream wherein you are forever doing homework and studying and won’t be able to wake up.”

Hou Jie smiled.

The Wood Specter wandered beside her, spreading its ghostly aura. All the students and pets present shuddered; their teacher’s monster was just too terrifying.

Everyone fell silent.

The thought of a dream about doing homework continuously was really terrifying.

“Haha, but don’t worry, for I’m usually not so cruel. After all, you’re my lovely students.” the woman pushed up her glasses and smiled softly.

Unlike before when it was English lesson, it was now a pet cultivation lesson.

The cultivation teacher would formulate relevant cultivation plans for the students based on their pets’ relevant situations and would also observe any problems in order to give corresponding suggestions. If they offended her, was it not the end for their pets?

“Yes…”

When she saw the students nodding earnestly and responding positively, Hou Jie felt very happy, but at the thought of how her English lessons were usually met with no reply, she felt sour again.

“By the way, do we have a class representative for this class?” she asked, smiling.

“Not yet. The homeroom teacher said that the teacher will choose.”

Shi Lei stood up and said, “Teacher, I want to be this cultivation subject’s representative. My previous cultivation scores have always been very good, with them being higher than 90 points each time. I’ve got lots of knowledge of relevant information and even applied for the trainer’s exam. In fact, I was only twelve points away from passing the theoretical part of it.”

The boy expressed himself with brimming confidence. He must fight for the position as the cultivation class representative. There were many benefits to having a good relationship with the cultivation teacher, and he could also obtain the power to speak and make decisions.

He felt that hopes were high for him. When Hou Jie taught English, he had been very active with high grades. Since he had taken part in the trainer exam before, he felt that no one was more suitable than him.

The other students, who originally wanted to compete, could not help but give up upon hearing his qualifications. None of them had taken the trainer exam.

However, his behavior caused many people to frown. Was it not enough to be the class monitor? He might as well be every single subject’s representative!

Shi Lei looked at the teacher expectantly, but the latter shook her head. “I’m sorry, student; I’ve long selected my class representative.

“That student is Su Bai. He can provide me with more help; I’m sorry.”

Upon hearing that, Shi Lei looked at his classmate in shock. “Su Bai? Why him?”

Logically, this was highly unlikely. He had been working hard for this position long ago, but there was actually someone better than him in class?

Everyone was expressionless, but they were greatly relieved inside. The tables had turned.

At the same time, many people were puzzled. Although Su Bai’s grades in the training courses were good, he did not seem as good as Shi Lei.

“That’s because he already got himself a junior trainer certificate, passing the theoretical part with full marks,” said the woman slowly.

“What?! The junior trainer certificate? How’s that possible?” Shi Lei was flabbergasted. He had never imagined that possibility.

“Is it true that he got a trainer certificate?”

“Su Bai, is it true?”

“Classmate, let me see the certificate!”

Most of the people in the class had this expression: Σ(゚∀゚ノ)ノ

Su Bai thought for a while and took out his trainer certificate as he nodded slowly. “I passed by sheer luck!”

Hou Jie was not just his teacher but also his boss. In the end, the boy did not dare to refute her.
