The Evil Consort Above An Evil King 1834 The Demon Within

The weather was unbearably cold. The children were only wearing thin clothes. Before they could get out of the wind, one of the children fell. Another child tried to pull him up but failed, so they both fell to the ground and could not stand up anymore.

Gu Xijiu was moved. She raised her hand, and two coats could be seen drifting through the air. The coats then wrapped around the children to keep them warm.

The children became warm very quickly as they muffled up in the coats. Immediately, they kneeled and bowed towards the sky as a token of gratitude to The Lord.

Gu Xijiu never appeared, nor had the children ever seen her. They only knew they had to bow and offer their hearty thanks to their only guardian, The Lord.

The children then proceeded to grill the rabbit.

The Firmament Stone sighed. “Master, under the miserable circumstance, out of so many lives, how many people can you possibly help?”

Gu Xijiu did not respond. She seldom talked or even thought about worldly matters, so the Firmament Stone could not understand what she was thinking.

After a long, quiet pause, she finally answered, “What do you want me to do?”

“Cheer up! You have to be happy! You need to feel alive. Master, the land requires a Lord who is lively. You can cry or even be angry; at least some emotions are better than deathly stillness.”

Gu Xijiu hesitated. “I cannot do it.”

She had tried, but she really could not do it.

The Firmament Stone did not know what to do. It was really worried.

She could not go on being so miserable, but it did not know what it could do to cheer her up.

Honestly, it started to reminisce the days when Di Fuyi was still The Lord. The world was blossoming in colors. Although there would be wars now and then, the land was always bustling with life.

Now, the world was merely a land of ice.

…

Gu Xijiu returned to the Crystal Palace in the sea. She saw the poems that were engraved all over the floor.

She sat on the rocking chair and stared blankly at Fuyi’s name in the poem. Her heart started to ache.

For the past year, she hardly had any feelings for anything. Everything flowed away in haste like floating clouds. Nothing could really make her feel anything, but the name of ‘Fuyi’ could easily sweep her away in a wave of emotions.

The name seemed to mean something profound to her.

However, she could not recall the reason.

She fell asleep on the rocking chair, and the Firmament Stone on her wrist started to glimmer with a faint light to cover her body within its halo.

The place was too cold. She would freeze if she fell asleep without any covers. Hence, the Firmament Stone shone with a glimmer of light to keep her warm.

Even in her dreams, Gu Xijiu could not help but frown; it was like she was trapped within the depths of her nightmare.

The Firmament Stone was curious. It would like to find out what had been haunting her in her dreams.

…

It was a hill of ice, followed by a vast sea of ice.

The snowstorm was wild and raging, as though carrying knives that could easily penetrate anything.

There was no one and no sign of life. There was absolutely nothing.

To its surprise, it did not expect to find the vast fields of emptiness even in her dreams.

It finally found its master, sitting alone in the snow. She was dressed entirely in black. Her dark hair and black robes fluttered in the wind, like a lost butterfly twisting and twirling as if struggling against the cold breeze.

It made the Firmament Stone’s heart ache to see her like that. It flew over and comforted her. “Master, please do not sit here for too long. You will get sick in the cold.”

Gu Xijiu looked up. Her eyes were dark and emotionless. “No matter where I go, it is still cold.”
