Chapter 659: Source of Merit

“I was born out of the Chaos and have reigned supreme in the Three Realms to this day. Countless have feared and revered me. Many hate me as well. I have eaten the Dao Ancestors’ beloved disciples and even a portion of the Buddhist Ancestor’s Merit Gold Lotus. Yet, they couldn’t do a thing to me. Who knew…” Patriarch Spirit Devouring gradually composed himself. Who knew as I belittled this Qin Yun, thinking that killing him was in the bag, that my carelessness would lead to my fall!”

Patriarch Spirit Devouring was well known to be crafty and careful. Nothing happened when he did not take action, but whenever he took action, it would be swift and ruthless.

A life of carefulness; yet, a moment of carelessness caused him to lose his life.

“Yes, the Misty Rain Array’s Three Absolutes Seven Stars killer move is as I expected. The might is much greater, seventy to eighty percent stronger than the Seven Star Vanquishment.” Qin Yun revealed a look of glee. “I believe I’ll be able to drain this Patriarch Spirit Devouring to death within three months.”

At times, all it takes is the last straw to break the camel’s back.

Qin Yun’s original strength was something Patriarch Spirit Devouring withstood with great difficulty. Every ten percent increase in strength rose the pressure on him exponentially. Now that the might had increased by seventy to eighty percent, Qin Yun believed that he could definitely kill him within three months. That was already a very conservative estimate.

“Qin Yun!” Patriarch Spirit Devouring’s massive body let out a rumbling voice.

“Daoist Wen.” Qin Yun looked at his captive.

“After I established the spirit-devouring lineage, I thought I was immortal, that no one in the Three Realms could think of killing me,” said Patriarch Spirit Devouring heavily. “I never expected to fall under you, an Itinerant Immortal. There’s nothing else worth saying. You attained a perfected Great Dao in a few thousand years after becoming an Itinerant Immortal. You also possess the only Intrinsic Connate Cardinal treasure in the Three Realms. My loss is to be expected.”

Qin Yun looked at him.

“But Qin Yun, don’t be eager to be smug.” Patriarch Spirit Devouring looked coldly at him. “In a little over three thousand years, your twelfth Itinerant Immortal tribulation will befall you. There might even be a thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth tribulation… I’ll be leaving first, but I believe you will follow closely after me.”

“There’s no need for you to worry about that,” said Qin Yun with a laugh. “Whether I really perish or transcend the Itinerant Immortal tribulations, you will definitely not live to see it.”

“Hmph!”

Patriarch Spirit Devouring grunted coldly and fell silent.

In his silence, his wings protected his body as his flesh was constantly rejuvenated. Despite that, he knew that he could not last three months under the barrage of attacks.

“I, Patriarch Spirit Devouring, will not commit suicide even if death is imminent. I’ll endure to the final moment. Perhaps, there might be a twist of fate at the final moment. Even if there isn’t…” Patriarch Spirit Devouring looked coldly at Qin Yun. “I will make this Qin Yun use all his might, day and night. I’ll waste a few months of his time, reducing the chances of him transcending the tribulations by that tiny bit.”

…

Patriarch Spirit Devouring continued withstanding, trying his best to stall for time.

However, all the mighty figures in the Three Realms could tell that Patriarch Spirit Devouring’s resistance would not last for long. Qin Yun and the Heavenly Lord of Numinous Treasure were inside and outside the Great World respectively. Their combined efforts made it impossible for Patriarch Spirit Devouring to have any chances.

“Hmph.” Fiend Ancestor finally gave up when he saw this scene.

He shot a glance at Numinous Treasure before taking a step and vanishing.

“Daoist Wen has reigned supreme in the Three Realms for so many years. Yet, he has finally fallen.”

“Now, one of the three perfected Great Dao fiends will perish.”

“How long has it been since the last perfected Great Dao perished?”

There were discussions throughout the Three Realms.

Perfected Great Dao existences held extremely high statuses. Since the development of the Chaos, regardless of the era, it was common to have ordinary mighty figures perish, but rare for perfected Great Dao existences.

For instance, the demon faction appeared to only have Demon Emperor Bai Ze as its sole perfected Great Dao existence. Few in the Three Realms knew of Daoist Lu Ya’s existence. Furthermore, he did not dare appear when the demons encountered trouble. This was because the most terrifying figure under the Heavenly Dao realm, Hou Yi, was hunting him. If he helped the demons with all he had, it would cause Hou Yi to target the demons.

A perfected Great Dao could influence an entire race.

For instance, the Ancestral Dragon had allowed the dragons to take up a supreme position in the Three Realms.

Yet, a perfected Great Dao existence was on the brink of death… It left the mighty figures of the Three Realms astounded as they sighed.

…

Days passed one after another.

Various parties in the Three Realms paid attention and watched. They watched as Qin Yun maintained the Three Absolutes Seven Stars attacks in the Misty Rain Array without stopping at all. They watched as Daoist Wen’s injuries grew graver, as death approached him.

On the two months and nineteenth day mark.

“Qin Yun, I’ll be waiting for you.” Patriarch Spirit Devouring glared at Qin Yun and laughed maniacally. His extremely heavy injuries began to crumble silently and his wings that were filled with cracks also shattered. His Essence Soul was destroyed, leaving only his True Spirit to enter Samsara.

Qin Yun watched as the long proboscis floated in midair as well as his other items. After Patriarch Spirit Devouring’s body was destroyed, all that remained of his form was the sharp proboscis that matched a Connate Cardinal treasure. Of course… when it was attached to Patriarch Spirit Devouring the proboscis matched that of a Connate Cardinal treasure, but with him dead, its might dropped drastically in the hands of others.

Qin Yun waved his hand and collected all the treasures.

His Misty Rain Sword flew into his body as the Fiend Annihilation Array stopped running. The thirty-six firmament chains also finally dissipated.

“Oh?”

“What happened to the thirty-six Heaven and Earth Chains?”

“They’ve existed since my grandfather was born. Why are they gone?”

Countless beings in the Huifeng Great World raised their heads in puzzlement.

For more than three hundreds years, the chains remained there. Countless beings were accustomed to it, so its sudden disappearance left the Huifeng Great World astounded.

However, the mighty figures of the Three Realms were even more shocked.

They knew what it meant!

“Whoosh~”

Merit surged from every direction and swarmed into Qin Yun’s body. It made him bathed in golden light.

“Congratulations, Senior Brother Qin for ridding us of Patriarch Spirit Devouring, eliminating a formidable fiend for the Three Realms.”

“Congratulations, Senior Brother Qin for killing Patriarch Spirit Devouring.”

“Congratulations, Sword Immortal Qin for killing Patriarch Spirit Devouring. It’s truly a deed of immeasurable merit.”

Voices sounded in his ears.

The Green Touring Palace mighty figures congratulated him, including Old Mother of Blackfoal Mountain. Quite a number of mighty figures from other factions in the Three Realms also congratulated him with voice transmissions, especially those who had a vendetta with Daoist Wen… They were very grateful. There were even perfected Great Dao experts who congratulated him, such as the Human race’s Three Sovereigns, as well as Hundun of the Chaos Three Banes.

Some of them were happy for Qin Yun.

Others only wanted to acquaint themselves with him.

After all, Qin Yun had proven his strength to the Three Realms by stepping on Daoist Wen’s corpse! An existence at the half-step Heavenly Dao realm who could slay a perfected Great Dao was one that struck fear in others.

…

“Go.”

Qin Yun extended his right hand as the three-inch-sword floated above his palm. It was none other than the Misty Rain Sword.

At that moment, boundless merit was being transplanted from Qin Yun’s body into his Intrinsic Flying Sword. The merit he had accrued over all these years were transplanted in it. The founder of the spirit-devouring lineage, which was considered fiends among fiends, Daoist Wen, was ranked within the top three in the Three Realms when it came to the amount of sin. Only the Fiend Ancestor and Patriarch Blood Sea could compare with him.

The merit obtained from slaying him was astounding. It was far more than the merit he gained from killing Star Destruction.

Qin Yun had killed quite a number of mighty figure fiends, but over all the years, Star Destruction was the one with the greatest sin. He was finally exceeded by his master, Daoist Wen, today.

“The merit gained from killing Daoist Wen is so huge that its thrice that of killing Star Destruction. Of course, it’s still slightly less than my sweeping through of the twenty-six dominions.” Qin Yun looked at the Misty Rain Sword in hand as he continued transplanting the merit.

The source of his merit came from sweeping through the twenty-six dominions, killing Daoist Wen, killing Star Destruction, and other miscellaneous deeds when ranked.

Finally.

All the merit was injected into the Intrinsic Flying Sword.

The Misty Rain Sword’s might rose by twenty to thirty percent, but it did not undergo any qualitative change.

“It still hasn’t become a Merit Cardinal treasure.” Qin Yun sighed.

A figure appeared silently by his side. It was a black-haired elder.

“Master.” Qin Yun immediately bowed reverently. It was the Heavenly Lord of Numinous Treasure’s avatar.

“It still hasn’t turned into a Merit Cardinal treasure?” Numinous Treasure frowned slightly.

“Yeah.” Qin Yun nodded. “It’s still not enough.”

“Let’s go. Follow me to meet Nüwa,” Numinous Treasure said. “When it comes to merit, Nüwa is ranked first in the Three Realms. She can tell how far your Misty Rain Sword is from a Merit Cardinal treasure at a glance.”

“Goddess Nüwa?” Qin Yun’s eyes lit up. “Okay.”

After taking a glance at the Wei Nation’s capital, where Princess Wei Ran was discussing matters with the nine-tailed fox, Qing Shuang, Qin Yun left the Huifeng Great World. He headed to Goddess Nüwa’s palace with Numinous Treasure.
