“Mom, you and dad go first. My friend has something to tell me; I’ll follow once he’s done talking.”

She stopped walking to wait for Chen Zhengchu after she informed the older woman.

Because of his speed, the man quickly reached her.

“Pei Ge, I heard that you’re transferring your mother to another hospital,” asked the man between his panting.

She nodded and smiled softly. “Yes. Thanks for all your help with my mother and me these few days.”

“…”

He became silent as he saw her smile.

“Okay, I have to go. If there’s anything, we can—”

The man cut her off at this point.

“There’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you.”

He stared intently at her while he moment’s silence.

“What is it?”

Dense as ever, she did not detect the emotions in his eyes.

“Back then, I really did like you and wanted to marry you.”

She was silent as he spoke.

It was an eerie and awkward silence.

“…I’ll get going now,” she said after a while.

“Hang on. I know that you thought of marrying me back then, too.”

The man did not intend to let her go easily and ran in front to block her path.

Seeing how his actions had attracted the others’ attention in this hallway, she took a deep breath.

“I really don’t want to talk about that right now. Regardless if I had feelings for you, it’s all in the past. I have a fiancé now.”

“I… know. I know that you don’t like me anymore, but I just want to make things clear to you.” The man smiled bitterly.

“Okay, I understand. Can you let me leave now?”

At her refusal to listen to him, the man felt a little sad.

“I really wanted to marry you back then, but my plans were ruined by that despicable Ji Ziming.”

She truly intended to leave but got upset when this man spoke of her fiancé in this way.

“What are you saying?! What despicable?! How unreasonable! You’re the one who’s still hung up on your ex back then, so what did it have to do with my fiancé?” she said unhappily, glaring at the man.

“You don’t know this, but your fiancé brought my ex back. He ruined our relationship on purpose!” He stared intently at her.

“Wh-What?!” She was shocked to hear his words. “What do you mean by him bringing your ex back?!”

“Exactly that!”

He nodded. He was just about to speak further when he saw her eyes sparkle.

Ji Ziming’s been in love with me since then, huh!

Looking at the smile on Pei Ge’s face, and the sweet aura emanating from her,

The man knew what she was thinking without her saying anything.

“It’s not what you think. He’s not in love with you.”

“I don’t get what you’re saying.”

The woman’s expression hardened at this.

“You probably don’t believe me, but I still want to say it: He’s not the right one for you.” He told her seriously after sighing.

“I don’t know if he likes you now, but I know for sure that he didn’t like you back then. He brought my ex over not because he liked you and could not stand to see you with me but because he didn’t want to see you happy. That’s why he had my ex get between us.”

The woman burst out laughing at this.

“Don’t you think that what you’re saying is laughable?”

She was speechless, not expecting this man to try and break up her relationship like this.

“Everything I’m saying is the truth; I’m not lying. I didn’t think of this back then, but when I asked my ex, she told me that Ji Ziming had her do that. The reason being… he couldn’t stand you and wanted to mess with you.”

Pei Ge did not know what to say when she saw the man’s serious expression.

Even though he did not seem to be lying, she still felt that something was wrong with his words.

“He didn’t even show up for something as big as your mother’s illness; he must not love you—”

He continued when she remained noncommittal but was interrupted by her in the end.

“Stop. You’re not the one to judge if my fiancé loves me. I’m grateful for all your help these past few days, Dr. Chen. Goodbye.”

With that, she left resolutely.

Chen Zhengchu pursed his lips as he watched the woman walk away, his eyes full of longing and helplessness.

While Pei Ge did not want to feel these emotions, the man’s words still angered her.

She had been feeling a little uncertain about her relationship with Ji Ziming lately, and that guy’s words only added to this.

With a gloomy expression, she got in the car.

“Ge Ge, what’s wrong? Why do you look like that?” Madam Ji asked her concernedly after the car door was closed.

She suppressed her feelings at the older woman’s concerned look.

“It’s nothing.” She shook her head and changed the topic for fear of the older woman continuing to ask. “By the way, mom, where is Ziming? Didn’t he say that he’ll come this afternoon?”

“Ziming… Something happened at the company. He couldn’t leave right away, so he asked us to come first, but he said that he’ll come as soon as his can.”

The older woman smiled comfortingly at her.

She was more understanding of the man when she heard Madam Ji’s words.

If that’s the case, something big probably happened at the company…
