“Come in.”

Clack!

Pei Shishi took a deep breath and opened the door to her father’s study.

Even though the study room was filled with expensive furniture, it also revealed the lack of taste of its upstart owner.

“Dad…”

Seeing her father sipping tea idly behind his desk, she felt disgruntled.

“Hmm?” hummed Pei Zhenghui without looking at her.

“Mom was taken away by the police.”

She took another deep breath and looked at her father with a heated gaze.

In that moment, she was really disappointed, but his reply only threw her in despair.

“So what?”

Probably due to the intensity of her gaze, the older man finally looked up at her.

“Huh? ‘So what’? ‘So what’?! Dad, how could you say something like that?! That’s your wife, my mother, we’re talking about!”

She broke down at her father’s indifference and coldness.

“Shishi, your mother is still under investigation, so why are you talking to me in this way?!”

He frowned and looked unhappily at his daughter.

“Even if the matter hasn’t been investigated, your present attitude is a little too much! Mom’s still at the police station now! At the very least, you ought to try and have someone get her out!”

Her despair grew as she listened to his uncaring words.

Suddenly, she felt that her father would not have any part to play if she wanted to get her mother out from the police station.

“I already said that she’s still being investigated; how could your mother be capable of killing someone? You’re thinking too much.”

The frustration in him grew as he watched her agitated manner.

The faces of two other people, one old and one young, appeared in his mind.

“Dad, I get it; you just don’t care about mom!” Looking at her father’s unhappy expression, she took a deep breath and decided to tell her ‘dear father’ everything, so that he could properly weigh his options.

“Shishi—”

She cut her father off.

“Dad, don’t say anything; just listen to me.”

With that, she told her father about everything that had happened that day.

Alas, for some reason, she chose to conceal the fact that she was a witness.

“Mom really did kill someone, and she really did kill Pei Ge’s mother.”

“W-What?!”

He was shocked to hear that and was even more so with his daughter’s next words.

“How could your mother have killed your aunt?! How could that be?!”

Faced with her father’s skepticism, she paid no attention to it and just continued speaking.

“You think it’s shocking? Ha ha! I’m telling you! Mom killed someone because of you! She did it for you!” she spat, staring intently at her father.

By then, he was stunned.

“Pei Ge already knows that you murdered her father!”

“What?!” He was unable to speak or react beyond that one word he had just uttered.

“I said: Cousin already knows that you killed uncle back then, and she had evidence, so she came earlier today to tell you to turn yourself in.”

She curled up her lips coldly and looked mockingly at her father.

“You didn’t expect it, did you, dad? The thing that you’ve been trying to hide was discovered by her.”

She only felt relief when she saw the panic on her father’s face, having been mad at him for how he treated her mother.

“No! How could she have found out?! There’s no way!”

Because of his shock, he did not deny anything but, instead, directly admitted it to her.

“They turned up at the door with evidence! She even said that three people harmed her father back then, and you were the mastermind.”

She looked plainly at him, no longer feeling fear with Pei Ge’s evidence gone.

Right now, she was focused on how she could remove her mother from the murder case.

“What?!”

How did she know, and how did she know so clearly?!

When he heard his daughter mention three people, he knew at once that his niece truly got evidence.

After all, three people, including him, indeed joined hands in killing his older brother back then, and he was indeed the mastermind!

No, no! He finally got to where he was today! He could not go down now! He could not go to jail!

“Where’s the evidence?! Where’s your cousin’s evidence?! What is it?!”

Instinctively, he wanted to get hold of the evidence in his niece’s hands and destroy it.

“Heh… Are you panicking now?”

Noting the pale and almost crazed expression of her father, she laughed coldly and bitterly.

“Quickly tell me!”

“What? Did you think mom ran down auntie for nothing?” she asked instead.

“What? Could it be…”

He thought of a possibility but could not believe that his wife would do that.

“You got it right. Mom heard my conversation with Pei Ge. After she learned that the evidence was with auntie, she ran her over for you to get rid of the evidence,” she said with a smile.

Alas, instead of feeling grateful, when her father heard her words, he…

“Where’s the evidence? Did your mom destroy the evidence?”

When her father remained unconcerned for her mother, she knew at once not to count on him to save her mother.

“Don’t worry; mom already got rid of it. Cousin doesn’t have evidence anymore.”

After she spoke, she left the study without looking at her father’s ecstatic expression.

She needed to go back and think of whom she could ask to save her mother…
