The three close friends bantered as they had lunch; thereafter, they went shopping and to a KTV together…

They shared their recent escapades to one another.

Just like this, Pei Ge hung out with them until 11 PM before going home.

“You’re home. Why, you seem to be in a good mood today.”

Zhang Manhua beamed at her upon her return.

She nodded and smiled. “Yes, I’m exceptionally happy today!”

“It’s good that you’re happy. You should go out with your friends more often.”

The older woman had naturally noticed her daughter’s downcast mood and troubled expression these past few days, but knowing that the latter was a stubborn person who had the habit of keeping all her problems to herself, she did not ask her about it despite feeling worried.

Thus, she felt elated when her daughter returned home looking better after a day outside with her friends.

“Mhm! Okay, mom!”

Her daughter hugged and kissed her light-heartedly before retreating to her bedroom while humming a tune.

“Sigh! That lass…”

She wiped the wet kiss on her cheek in amusement and returned to her bedroom as well, feeling helpless all along.

In her bedroom, Pei Ge retrieved some clothes to change into and went to the washroom to wash up.

By the time she was done, it was almost midnight.

Just as she prepared to sleep, her phone suddenly rang.

“Eh?”

Who’s calling me this late at night?

Could it be… Ziming?!

Her eyes lit up as she jumped out from the bed and swiftly moved toward the study desk.

However, when she picked up her phone and spotted the caller ID, the light in her eyes dimmed and her expression turned into one of disappointment.

Feeling disappointed, she answered the call. In the next moment, though, her spirit was uplifted by the caller’s words.

“Ge Ge, I have evidence that your second uncle is your father’s murderer!”

Fu Mingxuan’s refined voice came through the receiver. Although his voice was as calm as spring water, it sounded like thunderous roar to her ear, causing her heart to thump madly.

“Senior… i-is that true?!”

“Yes! Your second uncle wasn’t alone when he murdered your father, though! He had an accomplice—no, two accomplices!”

His words caused her to stay rooted to the spot, not knowing how to react to his words.

“W-What?! Two accomplices?!”

She momentarily stumbled on her words after she digested this information.

“Don’t get too agitated. Relax first; I’ll tell you about it slowly—”

“Quickly tell me now what this is about! Why were there three of them?! Who else were there besides my second uncle?! W-Why did they kill my dad? My dad was clearly such a good person…”

Far too agitated, tears started rolling down her cheeks like an open tap as she continued speaking.

“Ge Ge…”

Her sobbing caused the man to get worried.

Still, before he could console her, she spoke first.

“Can you just tell me about it now? I want to know everything fast!”

Her tone was so hurried and made one feel heartache for her.

Hence, putting her mood aside, he told her what he had learned quickly.

“Three people murdered your father. Of these three, one was your second uncle, another was a top executive in your father’s company—these two should be the masterminds—and the last one was the driver of the car that hit your father.”

His simple explanation caused her to lose all her energy.

Plop! Her butt hit the floor powerlessly.

“Are… you okay?” hurriedly asked the man when an odd noise came from the other end.

“I’m fine! Just please continue! Tell me all that you can about what you found out…” She gripped her phone with a lost look as her voice shook.

“It’s already late. How about we meet in person tomorrow to talk about it?” he suggested, sighing softly next.

“No!”

He received a firm rejection.

“Senior, tell me now, or else, I won’t be able to sleep tonight!”

“Then, I’ll continue.”

He sighed again, feeling heartache for her. That was due to the brutality and cruelness of what he was about to tell her.

Still, he knew that she would feel worse if he did not tell her.

“Mhm…”

“I only had your second uncle investigated, but when I was checking the cash flow of his bank account, I found two unknown outflows. Of these two cash outflows, one was made before your father’s accident and the other was after.

“You know that people like us who dabble in finance are sharp to numbers, so I followed this trail and managed to track the destinations of your second uncle’s cash outflows before your father’s accident.

“One was to a loan shark, while the other was to his creditor. Actually, to the police, that sum shouldn’t arouse their suspicion as it could just be your second uncle owing others money…”

She stopped him at this point.

“No, that’s impossible! My second uncle had no savings back then! Where would he get the money to pay the loan sharks?”

“That’s right. I also thought that when I saw this, but do you know where this money in his account came from?”

“Where?”

“From your father’s account.”

“H-How much?”

“One million.”

“What?! Impossible!”
