“I’ll make it for you when we get back.”

When he gave out this promise, the woman, who was feeling dejected, froze.

“Huh?”

Even if he could cook well, mastering any dishes would not happen overnight.

Seeing that she did not believe him, the man raised an eyebrow.

“While we were placing our order earlier, I asked the owner for the recipe. Even though I can’t make it taste exactly the same, it shouldn’t taste too bad.”

“You studied it?!”

The woman stared at the man in disbelief, but her doubts quickly resurfaced.

“That can’t be right! That’s their signature dish. Why would they tell you their secret recipe?”

“Is there anything in this world that money can’t buy?” asked the man with a smirk.

She refuted his words at once.

“Of course! Even though money is useful, it doesn’t mean that it can buy everything. Take human emotions for example.”

“It’s still more than enough for getting a secret recipe, no?” he countered, feeling amused at her reaction.

In his worldview, although ‘money’ was not almighty, a lot of things could not be accomplished without it.

“It’s fine; I won’t argue with you anymore—not like I can win, anyway.”

She pouted and did not dwell on this issue further.

“Heh…” The man’s lips downturned. He raised his palm and patted her on the head. “You don’t like that I’m cooking for you?”

“It’s not that I dislike it. I just think that we should try out the specialties in the places we visit since we finally get to go on a trip for once,” she muttered softly with a shake of her head.

“We have a long time ahead of us.” The man wrapped his arms around her.

“Mhm…” She nodded, the gloominess in her heart fading away.

“Say, Ziming; those people will soon forget about us, right?” asked Pei Ge while resting her head on his chest.

After getting a taste of celebrity treatment, she realized that it was not something anyone could handle.

Not only did they lack freedom, they must even hide the instant someone recognized them; it was as if they were public enemies.

“I don’t think it’s gonna be anytime soon, but I’ve asked our company’s PR to deal with it. It’ll die down eventually.” He reassured her when he saw how nervous she was.

“Okay! I don’t want us to be all over the news every time. I won’t have any freedom at all if this persists,” she muttered. Alas, her worst fear had come about as news of her had gone viral on the internet.

[Bumped into Boss Ji and the legendary Cinderella at Zhangjiajie, but the woman isn’t as good-looking as what I saw in the pictures.]

[Spell’s over for Cinderella? She returns to being just plain Cinderella.]

[The downside is that she’s diva Cinderella.]

…

There was an influx of derogatory posts and articles about Pei Ge across all types of media platforms.

Unlike the previous posts and articles about the couple, right now, she was being… slandered.

Still, saying that it was all slander was not exactly right, either, as the posts were actually factual.

Even so, the Ji Group’s PR department got a different vibe.

This made them nervous despite them usually not bothering with their boss’s relationship.

As such, the PR department head gave Du Wen a call without waiting for their big boss to seek them.

The secretary then called the man hastily, interrupting the romantic candle-light dinner of the pair.

“Let me take this call.”

While Ji Ziming did not like taking calls from work while with her, he knew that his secretary would not call him unless there was something important.

“En, go ahead.” Pei Ge nodded, her face full of contentment, and started eating the dinner the man had made for her.

“Hello. What is it?” He wiped his mouth with a table napkin and then headed out of the dining area.

“Boss, pictures of you and Miss Pei at Zhangjiajie today are all over the net.”

He was not surprised to hear that from his subordinate.

“Get straight to the main point,” said the man coldly, his eyes narrowing.

“Someone seems to be fanning the flames and manipulating all these from behind the scenes. Compared to the positive posts about Miss Pei before, the PR department thinks that someone is out to tarnish her this time.”

The man’s face darkened and his gaze turned increasingly colder as he listened to his right-hand man.

“Someone’s out to get my woman,” uttered the man after a while. His voice was eerily cold.

“Err… Of course, there’s a possibility that the PR department is mistaken,” Du Wen said with uncertainty. After all, the posts and articles seemed to be telling the truth.

“I don’t care. Ask the PR department to use all the company connections to suppress all these.”

“But sir, if we do that, the netizens might react negatively.”

“They’re just a bunch of irrelevant strangers. Get the PR department to suppress this news. My woman isn’t someone for them to comment about or judge!” said the man firmly, his eyes brimming with coldness.

“But…”

“Also, get someone to find out who is trying to slander my woman. I want the results in two days’ time.”

With that, he did not wait for his secretary’s response and just hung up the phone.

His flawless face was expressionless when he hung up the call, but when he walked into the dining area and saw Pei Ge enjoying her food, the hard lines on his face softened.

“Ziming, you’re back! My mom called me earlier. She said that we made it to the news again, but it’s not positive this time…”
