The engagement ceremony of the two ended with them embracing.

Still, even though it was over, the afternoon banquet had just begun. Previously, the guests only had light snacks to keep them sated.

With the ceremony over, the main course was served.

Because the engagement party was held in an open area, just like in other parties, the banquet was buffet-style.

Even though it was a buffet, the dishes were anything but ordinary.

“Mm! Delicious!”

Pei Ge said aloud after she took a bite of the steak the man had cut for her.

God knew how much energy an engagement party took!

She had breakfast before eight o’clock in the morning. By now, the food had been long digested by her system!

“Eat more if you like it.”

As he spoke, Ji Ziming put another piece of steak on her plate.

“I do like it, but I have to walk around just to eat.” She stared at all the delicious food with pursed lips.

“When we get married, we won’t have this kind of buffet,” said the man after hearing her words.

“Mhm-kay!”

She nodded with a smile.

Both sides’ parents felt the corners of their lips twitch as they watched the two interact.

Looking at the way they interacted, they could predict who was the decision-maker in the house!

They were just engaged and not married yet, but his slave-to-his-wife tendencies were already showing!

The parents of both parties exchanged glances and smiled.

They were clearly quite amused by his tendencies!

“Oh, right. Manhua, why didn’t our Ge Ge have her second uncle give her away earlier?”

Madam Ji suddenly posed the question that she had had since earlier.

Everything was arranged beforehand, so when she saw Pei Ge walk down the aisle alone, she got a scare. She thought that something had gone wrong, but she found out that it was because of her.

” Sigh …” Since they were going to be in-law soon, Zhang Manhua did not keep them in the dark. She briefly summarized the relationship dynamic between their family and Pei Zhenghui’s family.

Madam Ji’s eyes widened after she heard her explanation. She then looked at her future daughter-in-law guiltily.

“Ge Ge, I’m to be blamed for this; I didn’t understand things clearly before I…”

Pei Ge, who was happily eating away, hurriedly swallowed her food and shook her head after she heard her apology.

“Auntie, how can you be blamed for it? I was afraid that you’d be mad at me.” She looked at her with a smile. “It’s fine as long as you’re not upset with me.”

Looking at her shy behavior, Madam Ji burst out laughing.

“Oh! Even though I won’t get mad at you for this, I’m gonna get mad at you for something else.”

When she heard that, Pei Ge’s eyes widened in shock.

“D-Did I anger you in any other way?” she asked softly, looking at her in confusion.

“Yes.” The older woman pulled a straight face and looked at her with feigned anger.

Looking at how she had retracted her smile, Pei Ge got increasingly nervous.

She tried figuring out what she had done to anger his mom.

“This lass, you’re already engaged with my son, but you’re still calling me auntie.”

When she saw that she was still nervous, Madam Ji shook her head and held her hand.

“Huh?”

The latter stared at her in shock.

“Why are you still calling me auntie? From now on, you should call me mom.”

After she spoke, not just her, even Zhang Manhua began laughing out loud.

“Ha ha! Like this, Xiao Ji has to call me mom, too.”

Pei Ge finally understood what was going on when she saw both mothers laughing heartily.

The corners of her lips upturned a little and she looked at the man silently.

She wanted to see what kind of reaction the annoying fellow would have.

Who knew that this usually cold man with a seemingly low-EQ would—

“Mom,” said the man to Zhang Manhua without hesitation.

His reaction made both mothers that were laughing moments ago pause.

“…”

Aye? Aye? Huh?! Aye, aye, aye?!

The pair of mother and daughter’s eyes widened, glued to the man.

He called her mom so easily… That was a little too fast! She was not mentally prepared yet!

Looking at his woman’s dazed look, his lips upturned a little. He raised his hand and gently tapped her forehead.

“It’s your turn.”

The intimacy of his tone and action made even his mother jealous.

Pei Ge covered her head dazedly and nodded. “Oh.”

She then diverted her gaze from him to his mother.

In that moment, she was not as calm as he was. Her face was bright red like an apple.

“M-Mom…”

Her voice was akin to the buzzing of a mosquito.

Nonetheless, even though she spoke rather softly, Madam Ji did not make things difficult for her and acknowledged her call with a face full of smiles.

“Yes, my good daughter-in-law!”

When she heard that, a bright smile blossomed on Pei Ge’s face.

In an instant, the atmosphere between the two families became even more harmonious.

It was as if they had become one big family because of the two’s address of the mothers.

“Cough!”

Suddenly, Mister Ji, who had been silent this whole time, coughed heavily.

This was when she realized that he was staring at her.

Immediately, she became a little nervous.

She was still a little afraid of his dad!

The man’s mom dispelled this nervousness in an instant, though.

“He he. Ge Ge, ignore him. This awkward old man just wants you to call him dad! Let’s ignore him!”
