“She is… Bi Zheng’s girlfriend and… the person my brother likes.”

“Bi Zheng’s girlfriend?!”

Pei Ge’s eyes widened in shock, clearly taken aback by her words.

After a long time, she finally recovered from her shock.

“Wait a minute! What has this got to do with Bi Zheng’s girlfriend?”

She could not understand how two unrelated people would be entwined.

Also… Qitong’s brother likes Bi Zheng’s girlfriend?!

What is this all about?!

“Did you just say that your brother likes that Li Yumeng, too?” she asked, her tone solemn.

For some reason, hearing Qin Qitong say that gave her the feeling that this incident was no simple one.

Her sixth sense was telling her that a conspiracy was afoot here.

Still, she could also be overanalyzing this due to her seeing so many conspiracy theories recently.

“Sister Pei Ge, that Li Yumeng… fell down from the stairs herself. I didn’t push her. She framed me.”

Qin Qitong sniffled. Her voice, which was just regaining its normal tone, cracked in her frustration the moment she mentioned that woman’s name.

Pei Ge’s face turned solemn at this. “I believe you. Tell me the whole incident from start to finish in sequence so that I can help you think of something. Also, how are her injuries? Are they serious?”

“That woman is still in the hospital. I don’t know how she is, too. Ever since that incident, I’ve been locked up at home and forbidden from going anywhere.” The girl pursed her lips, her eyes clouding over with a wronged look.

“Okay. Then, tell me what happened. Why did they say that you pushed her down?”

She nodded and tenderly patted the back of her hand.

The concern in her eyes warmed Qin Qitong’s heart. With a hint of anguish in her voice, she slowly recounted the whole incident to her.

“After you left, I continued my investigation of her to show Bi Zheng, that fool, her true colors, but unexpectedly, I learned that she’s hooking up with my brother…”

She indignantly bit down on her lip, her voice laced with anger. “It turned out that she had met my brother a long time ago, and my brother felt something special for her. That’s why she’s able to hook up with him through me.

“I don’t know what kind of potion she fed my brother, but he brought her back to meet our parents. At that time, I was angry and desperate. I was just standing at the top of the stairs and talking to her when…

“She fell down the stairs without warning. I was so shocked then. After that, my stepmom, Ge Qing, spoke nonsense by claiming that I had pushed that woman.

“I was thinking that since there’s CCTV at home, I could acquit myself from this, but who would’ve known that its footage couldn’t prove my innocence.

“In the end, I was grounded by my father…”

The furrow between Pei Ge’s brows deepened after listening to her account.

The whole incident was clearly a trap – a perfectly executed one sans the slightest loophole.

If she did not know what kind of person this lass was, she would likely be fooled into thinking that the latter lost control of her emotions and decided to commit homicide by pushing that woman down the stairs.

After all, there was physical evidence and eyewitness for the incident.

The eyewitness was of course this lass’s stepmom, and the physical evidence was the CCTV footage featuring the incident…

“What d’you mean by ‘kill two birds with one stone’ earlier?”

As someone who had been a CFO for quite some time, she had developed a keen sense for things. Now, she just had to think for a while to arrive at a conclusion.

“I really hate my stepmom. She’s currently pregnant. At that time, she’s walking with us, so when that woman fell down the stairs, she almost hit her.

“Following that, my stepmom pointed her finger at me, claiming that if not for Li Yumeng trying to dodge her, she’d be badly injured.

“That’s why my brother and father think that I tried making that woman have a miscarriage…”

A bitter expression appeared on her face.

Looking contrite, her eyes brimmed with tears. “Sister Pei Ge, I didn’t know that they see me as a vile person.”

As she said this, the tears in her eyes finally rolled down her cheeks.

“Yes, I admit that I hate those two, but I never want them to die. I’ve never even killed a chicken before, so how could I possibly kill a human being, yet they actually think of me like that…”

Pei Ge exhaled loudly as the girl’s unabated tears soaked her cheeks and gently patted her back.

“I should be consoling you now, but it’s more important to investigate this matter fast, so don’t cry anymore.”

She did not console her and just said that resolutely, instead.

It might be a little strange, but Qin Qitong’s extreme anguish receded at her words, and a sense of security replaced it.

She wiped her tears and gave a strong nod.

Pei Ge heaved a sigh when she saw her calm down and spoke solemnly.

“First, do the two women know each other?”

She truly could not understand something. If Li Yumeng made herself trip down the stairs, why would Ge Qing lie?

Even if she lied due to her dislike of her stepdaughter, it was still weird.

“I don’t think so. Th-They probably don’t know each other.”

Pei Ge frowned at this. “From now on, I don’t want to hear any ambiguous answers from you.

“If they know each other, say that they do. If they don’t, just say that they don’t. If you’re unsure, just say that you don’t know.”

“They don’t know each other! The two of them should be strangers!”
