Seeing that he was serious, she nodded approvingly.

Hubby, our daughter is quite fortunate.

Even though it’s taken her for so many years, the moment she struck, our daughter got such as an excellent boyfriend!

It’s just as expected of our daughter!

Just as she was feeling proud of her daughter, she saw the latter walk out from the kitchen with a plate of fruit in hand.

“Mom, what are you and Ziming talking about?”

Pei Ge looked curiously at the two. While she was in the kitchen, she heard them talk about marriage or something along that line.

She must have misheard it, right? It had just been a day since the two of them got together. How could there be mentions of marriage already?

Eh? That did not seem right. She and this annoying fellow had already gotten their marriage certificate way back.

“He he! It’s nothing serious. I just asked Xiao Ji why he’s interested in you.”

Zhang Manhua took the plate of fruit from her and placed it in front of him.

“Xiao Ji, come have some fruit!”

“Okay.”

He took the plate of fruit from his girlfriend’s mother.

“Eh, right, Xiao Ji, when it’s convenient, arrange for a meal between me and your parents,” she said in seeming nonchalance.

Pei Ge, who was eating oranges, choked in shock when she heard her mother’s request.

“Cough, cough, cough! Mom, what are you talking about?!”

She had only officially started dating Ji Ziming today. Why would they have their parents meet when they had yet to enter the madly-in-love phase? Gosh! Let her off the hook, please!

God knew how much her boyfriend’s father disliked her.

What she did not expect was how he would readily agree to it, though.

“Okay, I’ll find a time and make arrangements.”

He looked seriously at his girlfriend’s mother. He knew that this was her way of telling him to settle the problems with his parents soon.

It was not really a big problem, though.

His mother undoubtedly adored Pei Ge. As for his father, that old man’s opinion was of no importance.

“…”

Looking at the eerie tension between her mother and boyfriend, Pei Ge got the feeling that the two had come to an agreement behind her back!

Thus, when she accompanied her boyfriend downstairs, she began grilling him.

“Speak now; what did you tell my mom while I was peeling fruit in the kitchen?”

She huffed indignantly, lifting her head up.

Looking at her adorable expression and her slender fingers, Ji Ziming picked up her hand and held it in his.

“Nothing much.”

“I seem to have heard you two saying something about marriage.” She probed, still feeling a little shy about the term.

Thankfully, it was already quite late, so no one saw the blush on her face in the darkness.

Before he could reply, she was reminded of a different problem, and she blurted out, “Ah! Come to think of it; we are already married!”

He paused a little when he heard her words.

“Actually, if you think about it, I think we really do have affinity…”

Just as she was talking excitedly, for reasons unknown, he did not let her finish.

“I… have something I’d like to tell you.”

His cold face carried a hint of solemnity and complexity, but due to the surrounding darkness, she did not notice this.

“Mhm? What matter?” she asked carefreely, smiling at him.

Noting the happy smile on her face, he breathed out and slowly opened his mouth, as if having come to a decision.

“Pei Ge, I—”

Alas, at this moment, his phone rang, cutting him off.

“Ziming, your phone’s ringing; I think you’d better take that call first,” she urged softly, blinking at him.

He frowned a little but nodded in the end and took out his phone, yet when he saw the caller ID on the phone screen, he could not help but furrow his brows.

“What’s wrong?”

She was slightly perplexed when he did not pick up the call right away.

“It’s nothing; you go up first.”

He calmly shook his head at her and then put his phone down, as if not intending to pick up the call.

Feeling that something was off with him and that he was hiding something from her, she suspiciously thought of that woman in New York.

“Who’s calling?”

Although she knew that she should not be so sensitive on the first day of their relationship, she could not help it.

Yes, he did confess to her and became her boyfriend, but there was still a thorn in her flesh.

From time to time, that thorn would remind her that he had a former girlfriend whom he was rather close, and even now, he still had her photo.

“En?” He was clearly surprised that she would ask.

“It’s fine. If you don’t want to tell me, I’ll go back up.” She pursed her lips, feeling as if she had exaggerated things.

“Nothing, it’s just a call from Mu Heng.”

He might not understand why she was upset, but he still told her and even showed her his phone screen.

Once she confirmed that the caller was indeed that playboy, she felt a little frustrated with her sensitivity.

Pei Ge, you’re dating him now! Trust Ji Ziming a little more!

Don’t always go imagining things and suspecting him!

“Mu Heng must have something important to tell you if he’s calling you at this time in the day. Quickly take the call; I’ll go up now. Drive safely on your way back.”

She then turned and headed up the apartment building.

She turned back again after taking a few steps, though.

“Ah! I almost forgot!”

“En?” He was confused when he saw her barreling toward him.

She walked up to his side with a smile and then tiptoed to plant a kiss on his cheek.

“I was missing a good-night kiss!”

“…” He froze at once and his ears turned pink.

By the time he returned to his senses, she had already run upstairs to the apartment building.

“Ziming, good night!”

“En, good night.” The corners of his mouth hinted of a smile, and his expression was ever so gentle.

He only turned and left for his car when he saw that all the motion-sensor lights on the stairs had dimmed.

Of course, his phone was still ringing.

“Hello.”

He was still frowning when he picked up the call in the driver’s seat.

“Ziming, he he! I didn’t expect you to be so romantic!”

While he was on the phone with Mu Heng, a pair of siblings were on the phone as well.

“Yunyun, when will you come back? The time the Ji family gave you back then has passed…”
