Watching the passing scenery outside the car window, the itch in her heart calmed down.

She turned her head to look at the man driving the car.

Even now, she still found all these hard to believe.

“Cough, cough, cough!”

She coughed lightly and looked at him with a smile in her eyes.

At this, Ji Ziming, whose eyes were fixed straight ahead, glanced at her briefly.

“May I ask our CEO Ji what nature of our relationship is now?”

She tried to hide her smile as she blinked at him with a serious look.

There was a saying that went: ‘Whoever falls in love first loses first.’

She believed that this logic applied to confessions as well.

‘Whoever confesses first loses first.’

She felt like a farmer who had successfully seized her landlord’s title. Ji Ziming had always ordered her around and treated her coldly in the past.

Now, how could this ‘farmer’ who had overthrown her landlord not be a little smug?

Ji Ziming gave her another helpless look and softly sighed. Slowly, he asked back, “What relationship do you think we have now?”

“I want to hear you say it aloud: who am I to you now?” She beamed at him, seemingly not planning to let the matter rest as long as she did not get an answer from him.

His inability to deal with her now frustrated him a little; at the same time, he was very happy with the way she ‘showed no respect for someone above her station.’

He felt as if she were acting cutesy toward him, which was extremely adorable.

Mhm. You can say that ‘it takes two to tango’.

“You are now my girlfriend.”

With a light smile on his lips, he softly said that.

“Who do ‘my’ and ‘you’ refer?”

Perhaps due to too much stimulation today, she revealed a far more childish side of her.

“You, Pei Ge, are my, Ji Ziming’s, girlfriend.”

He gave her a helpless look filled with gentleness and doting.

“Pfft!”

His words made her smile wider.

“So, is our contract now void?”

“No, that contract isn’t void.” His eyebrows twitched slightly, yet his lips still held a light smile.

“Ah? Not void?”

This pricked her.

“I’m already your girlfriend, so why hasn’t it become void?! When will it ever be annulled?!”

Her agitated reaction made him burst out laughing.

He had truly not expected that, after confessing to this stupid woman beside him, she would become dumber and… cuter.

“Stupid woman, our contract has just started.”

The traffic light turned red, and the car stopped.

He turned to look into her eyes with deep affection.

“I think that, from here on, we should amend that contract.”

Pound, pound!

Her eyes widened at him. Clearly, this man’s charms were bewitching her at every moment.

“From here on, you can only belong to me, stupid woman.”

With that, he leaned to her and, as if facing an immeasurable and priceless treasure, planted a soft kiss on her forehead.

The moist and cold touch on her forehead did not help her recover; rather, it made her dazedness even worse.

Her dazed and silly look only made the smile in his eyes grow gentler.

A minute or two passed, and the traffic light turned green, so he resumed driving. Only then did she return to herself. Suddenly, her phone started ringing.

With a slight flush, she fished it out from her bag.

“Hello.”

As this was a foreign number, she politely answered the call.

Who knew that she would be totally stunned when she heard the person’s words?

“Hello, are you the family of our patient, Zhang Manhua?”

Patient? Zhang Manhua?

“I-I am! She’s my mother. Did something happen to her?” she frantically asked.

She had just talked to her mother on the phone the other day; why did she suddenly become a hospital patient today?

“Oh, this miss, please relax. Your mother isn’t seriously ill. She just caught a fever…”

Although the nurse calling explained in detail that her mother was not gravely ill, she still felt immensely worried.

“What’s wrong?”

He noticed that her worried look and asked her concernedly.

“My mom got a fever and is now in the hospital.” She pursed her lips with a panicky look.

“Don’t worry; we’ll reach the capital in half an hour.”

As he said that, the car’s speedometer shot upward.

To begin with, they were already on their way to the capital, so they were truly not far from their destination.

“Mhm.” She nodded but still felt worried.

“Other than a fever, is auntie okay?” he pressed on concernedly, flooring the accelerator.

“That nurse said that my mom only has a fever and no other illness. Luckily, before she fainted, she managed to call for an ambulance, or else I really don’t know…”

Her hands balled up into tight fists.

Noting the self-deprecating look on her face, he lifted his right hand away from the steering wheel and gently held hers.

“This is just an accident. It’s not your fault.”

“Mhm…” she softly hummed in reply.

“How about this: after the New Year, don’t go back to Tianjin and just accompany me and auntie in the capital?” he suggested, still holding her hand.

“No, I haven’t—”

She moved to reject his suggestion, but before she could do so, he interrupted her.

“There’s nothing that can’t be done. I’ll inform my dad on my end.”

The hand that held hers tightened as he looked at her resolutely.

“I know all about the changes you’ve made at Jiaheng. You’ve already done well, so regarding my father’s task, you’ve long passed it. Don’t think too much about this now.”
