The father-son pair was alike not just in terms of their looks but also in personality.

The two, one standing and the other sitting, emitted cold air.

“Where did you send Pei Ge?”

Ji Ziming pursed his lips tightly and looked at his father sharply.

“Hmph! You’re really my good boy, huh. You dare to confront me like this over a woman.” His father snorted darkly.

“… Dad, where is Pei Ge? She’s not a bad woman. She’s innocent, albeit a little silly. If you have a problem, come directly at me.”

He calmly spoke before pursing his lips bitterly.

His words surprised the middle-aged man.

His son, who had never lowered his head in front of anyone, unexpectedly spoke modest words.

“I think that you’ve really lost your mind over a woman!”

The longer he looked his son’s abnormal expression, the angrier he felt.

“He he! What right do you have to talk about others, old man? Weren’t you head over heels for me back then?”

Just as the two were stuck in an impasse, Mother Ji’s voice cut in.

“Honey, don’t mess around,” her husband chided gently, seeing her enter the room as well.

“I’m messing around? Hmph! You can lecture my son like this, but I can’t back him up?” She walked to the front of her husband and glared at him.

He was speechless at this.

Ji Ziming did not care about his dad’s feelings and just continued pressing him for answer.

“Dad, where exactly is Pei Ge right now?”

“Talk! Where did you send our Ge Ge?!” She, who had originally come to consensus with her husband, began interrogating him, too.

“…” Father Ji sighed when his wife started grilling him, too.

“I had her go somewhere outside the capital,” he answered coldly, glancing at his son.

“Then where did you send her?”

Ji Ziming grew antsy.

“I can’t tell you now.”

“…”

A feeling of frustration rose in him at his father’s reply.

“Why do you always do this?!”

He, who had always been calm, suddenly spoke aloud.

Both his parents were shocked by his outburst.

“Son, are you okay?” she asked, nervously looking at him.

He did not respond to her and just continued staring at his father.

“… Are you blaming me for this?” His father sighed after a moment’s silence.

“Are you blaming me for always concerning myself with your love life?”

“…” Their son did not respond again.

She was lost upon seeing the solemn face of her husband and the grim face of her son.

“Okay, okay. Son, your dad is doing this with your best interests at heart. Although your father and I deliberately interfered between you and… that woman, Ge Ge is different.”

She walked over to her son’s side and patted his back. “Your dad isn’t trying break you guys up this time. He’s giving her a chance to train at a branch company before promoting her. This way, people won’t gossip about her and say nasty things when she’s by your side in the future.”

He paused a little when he heard his mother’s words.

So Pei Ge’s training at a branch company?

“Then, why can’t I get in touch with her?”

He looked at his father with suspicion, seemingly not buying it.

“Hmph! You didn’t know how to contact your girlfriend while you were overseas for work; I was just giving you a taste of how she felt.” His father scoffed, sounding as if he were looking out for Pei Ge.

In fact… he was only trying to let their son get a sense of how he and his wife felt when they could not get in touch with him.

En. It actually did not have much to do with that woman at all…

“…” When he saw his father’s self-righteous manner, he instantly grew silent, and a hint of conflict flashed across his eyes.

Hearing her husband’s defense, Mother Ji was instantly reminded of how their son could not be contacted while he was abroad.

“Yeah, son, you didn’t tell us that you’re going to New York, and we couldn’t get through to your phone. If it’s just your father and I, that’s fine, but even Ge Ge, your girlfriend, couldn’t get in touch with you. What would she think of it?

“If Ge Ge’s friend didn’t see you there, who knows how worried she’d be?”

His expression became more dazed upon hearing his mother’s admonition.

“Son, tell your dad and I honestly; why didn’t you call Ge Ge at all when you went to New York for work?”

When her son did not speak, she became suspicious.

Although she believed that, with him having a new girlfriend, he would not get involved with that woman again, she still wanted to clarify things.

“I really was overseas for work, but I dropped my phone, and… it broke.”

“Hmph!” His father snorted disbelievingly. “If you wanted to call, you could still call even if your phone was broken.”

“Yes, even if your phone broke, couldn’t you borrow someone else’s and make a call?”

She nodded in agreement with her husband.

“I did borrow someone else’s phone to send a text to… Pei Ge.”

He knitted his brows tightly together, suspicion in his voice.

He did borrow a phone to text her then, but why were his parents saying this?

“Eh? Really? Ge Ge didn’t receive any texts!” His mother believed his claim without doubt.

Didn’t receive anything?

How could she not receive anything? He sent a rather long message to her, and he even gave her his new number, but she never called.

And because of his pride, he did not call her, either…
