Pei Ge returned to the office following the after-lunch walk.

Her brows twitched ever so slightly when she saw the empty office. As lunchtime was almost over, everyone would usually be back at this time.

Where is everyone?

She muttered that inside her as she went to sit at her desk.

As her workstation faced the CEO’s office, she could see its tightly closed doors and windows upon sitting down.

Where did that annoying fellow go this time?

Why does it feel that Ji Ziming is very busy these days?

Yesterday, he clearly told me that we’ll have lunch together, yet just one day passed, and he’s already gone to who knows where.

Just as the man’s voice rang in her mind, she heard the clacking of high heels against the floor.

“Ningning, I’m telling you; be on your guard against Pei Ge. That woman is totally not simple. She’s already chased away two secretaries from our office!”

The voice could be heard even before the person appeared.

A cold smirk appeared on her lips when she heard Lu Huiya’s voice.

Hur hur. What does she mean by me chasing away two secretaries? She really is throwing all kinds of shade at me, huh.

“So, you—” Two ladies soon appeared at the office’s doorway.

Before Lu Huiya could continue speaking, the female lead of their conversation cut in.

“Lu Huiya, I didn’t know that I have this much power to be capable of firing two of my colleagues,” she mocked coldly.

“P-Pei Ge?!” The woman clearly did not expect her to be back in the office; hence, her face turned ghastly at once as her eyes tinged with fear.

Everyone now knew that she was their big boss’s girlfriend. Therefore, saying what she had just said was akin to plucking the tiger’s fur right in front of its mouth – she was simply courting death!

“Hmph!” She coldly snorted when she perceived her colleague’s fright, warning, “You’d better not let me hear you say this kind of thing again.”

“…” Her officemate lowered her head and kept her mouth shut.

As for Wang Ningning, she eyed Pei Ge curiously.

Pei Ge did not mind it and merely lowered her head to continue her work.

It was perhaps this afternoon’s exchange that Lu Huiya remained subdued for the rest of the day and only huddled in her seat.

Her actions made the atmosphere in this small office awkward.

Pei Ge did not care about the office’s atmosphere. Rather, her attention was on the man not returning this whole afternoon.

Even when quitting time arrived, she still did not see a shadow of the man.

Why did that annoying fellow not come to the office this whole afternoon? Does he have some important work?

“Sister Pei Ge, it’s time to get off work; let’s go home together!”

Qin Qitong’s voice interrupted her thoughts.

Recovering herself, she noted that everyone had already left and that the girl was grinning at her from the office entrance.

“Okay,” she agreed, smiling in return.

“Sister Pei Ge, should we go get some desserts? I haven’t done that with you for so long!” The girl enthusiastically hooked her arm through Pei Ge’s once they got into the elevator.

Unexpectedly, the latter shook her head.

“Not today. I decided to cut down on my fix of desserts.”

“Eh, eh, eh, eh, eh?!” The girl widened her eyes in disbelief.

After all, she knew how much Pei Ge loved desserts!

“Why would you do that? Could it be…” Worry crept into her face as she asked, “Are you ill?!”

“Of course not. I just decided to go on a diet!” She shook her head in amusement.

“Diet?!” Askance and shocked, she continued probing for answer. “Why are you suddenly going on a diet?!”

“Of course, it’s because I’m fleshier than the average women. Is this that unbelievable?” She blinked in surprise upon noting her shock.

Given my current body frame, shouldn’t I try to slim down? Lily’s been nagging me about slimming down for quite some time now, saying that my current figure isn’t the least bit flattering and whatsoever !

“I don’t find you fat, though.” The girl shook her head and pouted. “Don’t tell me you’re thinking of going on a diet for my cousin?”

Pei Ge blushed at this.

“O-Obviously not! I’m doing this for myself!” she quickly rebuked.

Her expression belied her reaction, however.

“He he!” The girl cupped her mouth and snickered upon seeing her reaction.

Her cheeks turned redder at her teasing look.

“Actually, if I must say it, Sister Pei Ge, you don’t need to slim down. Maybe, my cousin likes the current you!” The girl teased her further.

She only felt her cheeks heat up even more.

Ding!

She was relieved when the elevator doors opened at this point and dashed out of it as though the devil were hot on her heels.

“Aye, aye, aye, Sister Pei Ge! Why are you running?! Wait for me!”

The girl giggled when she saw how frantic Pei Ge was to get away from her.

Pei Ge could only duck out of the company building under many people’s gazes and with the girl chasing after her.

“Hah, hah, hah… Sister Pei Ge, you’re still saying that you need to slim down! Just look at how fast you ran. You don’t even look like a person who needs to slim down.” As someone who was much skinnier than her, the girl was breathless by the time she exited the company building behind her.

Comparatively, Pei Ge was not the least bit breathless. It even seemed as if the one who had dashed out just then was someone else.

“You just lack exercise.” She looked at the breathless girl behind her in amusement.

The two were standing at the pedestrian lane outside the company building when Li Qi came driving by and stopped in front of them.

“Sister Pei Ge, CEO Ji asked me to send you home.”
