A gust of cold wind blew and Pei Ge felt her body chill. Looking at his icy eyes, goosebumps rose on her skin.

“What do you want me to do to you?” Ji Ziming took another step forward when he saw her retreat backward.

“I – I… I don’t want you to do anything…” she stammered and hung her head low in shame. Her anger dissipated the moment she saw the rectangular jewelry box.

Even when she said this, he did not let the matter go and continued to close the gap between them.

“You say I touched you?” he coldly asked.

“Yes, of course! You touched me, then!” She lifted her head indignantly and fixed him with her accusing eyes the instant she heard him pretend to be innocent even to that act.

Only then did she realize that they were very near each other.

Seeing his perfect face close up caused her to blink and swallow her saliva. “You! You get away from me!”

She retreated a few steps.

“Pei Ge, if I didn’t hug you earlier, you would’ve fallen down the stairs.” He eyed her with indifference and disappointment before continuing, “I didn’t expect that you would misconstrue my action.”

“Huh?” She was at a complete loss and suddenly felt that they were on a different channel. Why was it that her version of the event was so different from his?

“Never mind that you did not thank me for saving your life earlier, you even accused me of molesting you.” His cold eyes were filled with condemnation.

In that instant, she felt as though she had done something wrong, and it made her heart squeeze.

“Hey! Don’t reverse black and white, alright?! You… You clearly touched my…”chest . She did not have the guts to say that area aloud.

Although she had a feisty personality, she was still a woman.

“Touched you?” His forehead moved and, with an indifferent expression, added, “In that type of situation, bumping into you is normal.”

“…” She deflated at that.

She really did not expect that he could be so eloquent despite his seemingly taciturn nature to the point that she almost believed him.

“Alright, you go back.” He glanced at the slightly enlightened her and coldly said.

Without looking at her, he turned and went to his parked car.

She watched in a daze as he got in his car and drove off. It was as if she were in shock and nothing could draw her back to reality.

A gust of cold wind blew and jolted her out of her reverie.

Seeing the empty road ahead, she pulled her jacket tighter and trudged back to the dark stairwell.

Her heavy steps lit up the stairwell’s sensor lights.

Returning to the spot where she and the man had previously been entangled, she suddenly halted her steps.

Her forehead creased as she was filled with skepticism.

“That’s not right…” She frowned, pondering, and then muttered, “The thing poking me earlier was clearly soft and hard… It didn’t feel anything like a box….”

Did she really misconstrue the situation?

…

“Young man, did you reconcile with Ge Ge?” Grandpa Ge hurriedly opened the security booth window and asked Ji Ziming this when he spotted the latter’s car.

Feeling that the car’s atmosphere was slightly stagnant, Ji Ziming rolled down its window as he absentmindedly affirmed Grandpa Ge’s assumption.

“That’s good; that’s good. Next time, I don’t want to see someone else sending Ge Ge home.” Grandpa Ge laughed and opened the boom gate.

“Weird. Why does that young man look conflicted when he has reconciled with Ge Ge?”

Grandpa Ge shook his head wonderingly and shut the window.

In autumn, the night was darker. The streetlamps on this particular road were constantly flickering and would go out from time to time.

Therefore, this road was very dark tonight.

Gaaaaa! The speeding car suddenly halted.

This road was fortunately quite deserted, so his sudden halt did not cause any accidents.

Peng! Ji Ziming, who was in the driver’s seat, heavily punched the steering wheel.

Paaaa! The car’s loud honk pierced through the surrounding silence.

“Damn it!” He balled his hand into a tight fist as his forehead folded together. His expression was as cold as ice, and if anybody were to see it, they would surely tremble in fear.

After silently sitting in the driver’s seat for so long, he finally moved.

His palm reached into his pants’ pocket and retrieved the rectangular jewelry box.

Peng! He threw the box to the backseat and it crashed with a sound.

When did he, Ji Ziming, have such bad self-control?! It was just that kind of woman… that kind of woman….

The look of innocence and helplessness on Pei Ge’s face resurfaced in his mind in that moment.

“Damn it!” His eyes darkened and felt his neck become itchy.

It was that kind of woman that caused his body to react.

All the grand words earlier were, therefore, said by him to deceive the dumb woman, and the inexperienced Pei Ge expectedly believed him.

He inhaled deeply and suppressed that bout of frustration inside his heart. After he calmed himself down, he stepped on the accelerator.

…

Pa!

When Zhang Manhua heard the closing of the door from the living room, she hurriedly got up off the sofa to welcome Pei Ge.

“What is your relationship with that young man earlier?”

She looked at her mother helplessly and weakly replied, “No relationship.”

“How can that be? If you two don’t have a relationship, why did that young man bring many delicious foods for you to eat?” Zhang Manhua was certain that things between the handsome, young man earlier and her daughter were not that simple.

“Mom, I really don’t have a relationship with him. If you really want to insist on something, then it is purely a superior and an employee relationship,” she feebly answered. What had happened earlier truly drained her.

“Alright, then you tell me what happened with your dinner date earlier. I thought you were with Dr. Chen? How did it suddenly involve Xiao Ji?”
