“That’s not right! Why are we hiding from him?!”

Tang Xiaoyu, who had just felt relieved, had a realization at that point. Why were they hiding from that scum?

“We didn’t do anything wrong; why were we hiding from him?”

She narrowed her eyes at Pei Ge, her expression indignant.

“If there’s anything, that jerk should be the one hiding from us!”

“…”

The latter went silent at that. Her hands then covered her protruding stomach.

“I don’t want to see him… Besides.” She paused and lowered her head to look at her tummy.

“Besides what?” prompted her best friend confusedly at her hesitation to speak more.

“Besides, I don’t want him to know that I have his child. I’m afraid…” She raised her head to reveal a worried look on her small face. “That he’ll take my children.”

“Are you reading too much into this? The children are yours; what right does that jerk have to take them from you?”

Her best friend rolled her eyes in exasperation following her words.

“I’m just worried; that’s why…” She took a deep breath and made a decision in her heart.

That decision was: She would go to Harvard as soon as possible from here.

There was a good hospital there; in addition, Professor William and her fellow students were looking forward to meeting her.

“That’s why I’ll be moving to Cambridge tomorrow.”

“What?! No!” Tang Xiaoyu’s first reaction was to reject her decision.

“Ji Ziming’s just in New York for a business trip and not for a long stay! Don’t mess around. You are carrying twins and shouldn’t be running around. Just stay here!”

“I’m not running around. I originally intended to go to Cambridge. Besides, I’m not going there just to hide from him but also to learn.”

She explained softly upon seeing her best friend’s strong reaction.

Alas, her explanation was not effective to her friend.

“What are you saying?! Even if it’s for studying, you can do that after you’ve given birth!”

“Don’t worry. The professor himself suggested that I go there now. He said that that place is great for recovery and that the hospitals there are rather advanced. He can also arrange for a doctor to see me anytime. I…”

She paused and looked at her best friend, determination in her eyes.

“No matter what you say, I’m leaving tomorrow.”

“Ge Ge, don’t be too willful!”

The other woman’s attempts at dissuading her were futile, though, as her best friend merely turned and told the driver to move off.

Tang Xiaoyu stared at her as if she were an alien when she saw that the car had started driving them again.

“What are you doing?! We haven’t eaten yet!”

“Not today. I’ll call Shen Rui to let him know. If you want to have dinner with Zhengrong here, you can get the driver to stop now.”

After she spoke, Pei Ge took out her phone and gave Egger a call.

Looking at the determination on her face, the other could only roll her eyes. “I’m not eating! I’m not eating anymore! What a spoilsport!”

She was unbothered by her best friend’s unhappiness, however. While she stared at the latter, she heard the man’s masculine voice on the phone. “Hello. Are you here yet?”

“I’m so sorry. I can’t make it tonight as I have something to attend to.” She went straight to the point after the call went through.

“…Oh, it’s okay. We can make plans next time.”

She was relieved when she discerned that the man on the other end did not seem to feel unhappy with this outcome.

“Yes! We’ll make plans next time; again, I’m so sorry!”

“Anyway, did you run into trouble?”

“Er! It’s nothing much; it’s just that today’s not a good day anymore.” Seeing that her old classmate was so sharp, she felt a little guilty. “Okay. I still have something on, so I’ll hang up now.”

“Okay, but you must tell me if anything’s up.”

“…Thank you, Shen Rui.”

After a short pause, she thanked him and then hung up.

On the other hand, her best friend, who had been feeling upset with her, was done texting her boyfriend, too.

“Hmph!”

Seeing that she had hung up, Tang Xiaoyu scoffed heavily to illustrate her anger.

“Why? Still angry?”

She shook her head with a smile as she watched her best friend sulk.

“I can’t be bothered with you.”

The latter pouted. Even though she was not really angry with her, she still turned her head away.

“Okay! Don’t be angry anymore! I’ll treat you to sour fish soup at Chinatown; how about that?”

The corners of her best friend’s mouth twitched when she heard her words. She then rolled her eyes exasperatedly.

“What do you mean you’re treating me?! You’re clearly craving it!”

“He he! Our Xiaoyu is the smartest.”

As she spoke, she hugged her arm coyly.

“Babies, look at how nice your godmother is to you! When all of you are born, you’d better treat her well!”

“Okay, okay! I’ll come eat with you! Seriously, I’ll give it up to you. You’re actually using my precious babies against me…

“Once they’re born, I’m so telling on you!”

“He he! Sure! You can tell them whatever you want”

While the two women were happily chatting en route to their new destination, the ambiance between the two men was a lot colder and tenser.

Glittery halls, shining lights, people dressed glamorously, orderly waiters, an elegant cello…

Everything inside a particular hotel was elegant and poised. It was clear from one look that no ordinary person could enter this place.

At this time, the two men, who had been stood up, got up from their seats.

Perhaps intentional, their seats were not far from each other.

Gu Zhengrong and Egger exchanged glances after they stood up.

“You know why Pei Ge’s not coming, right?”

The former tidied up his clothes and walked over to the latter.

“Yes.”

As he spoke, the latter directed his gaze onto another tall figure.

“Ji Ziming…”
