Qin Chu’s phone began ringing after he got on a cab.

“Mian.”

“Honey, where are you?”

“Outside your hospital.”

“There was an emergency, and I have a meeting to be at right now, so I didn’t call you.”

“Oh, I see…” Huo Mian said, sounding a bit disappointed.

“Nothing, I was just at rounds and saw you as you left, so I called you to ask.”

“Okay.”

After hanging up, Huo Mian walked up to the reception desk, where two nurses, not aware that Huo Mian was behind them, discussed what just happened vigorously amongst themselves.

“Did you see President Qin just now? He was here with Zhang Manlin!”

“Zhang Manlin has her ways, she’s successfully mesmerized all the doctors here ever since she began working here! I heard that the head of anesthesiology, Chief Jiang, asked her out to dinner last night and was refused!”

“Oh yeah? Chief Jiang is known to be super rich, and he’s always so stern-looking, I don’t think I ever saw him talking to a woman.”

“That’s why Zhang Manlin’s so good! She’s in finance, does she even know how to look after a patient? I was wondering why she offered herself just now, and now I know. The emergency happened at GK, and now she managed to get President Qin to come back with her! Didn’t you see them outside the OR just now? She was such a flirt, and President Qin didn’t refuse! I bet he has feelings for her as well.”

“Watch your mouth, President Qin is Vice Director Huo’s husband.”

“I’m just telling you what I saw! It’s normal, isn’t it? Vice Director Huo is an amazing woman, but men are all the same; they get sick of eating the same food every day, so it’s normal to want to dabble in other tastes.”

“Would he really? I heard they have a really great relationship though, plus they have two children together!”

“But that’s just it. They’ve been married for so long that they don’t feel the initial heat anymore. Men usually cheat after a few years of marriage, not right after they get married! Anyways, President Qin is still a man, we shouldn’t put him on a pedestal.”

You have a point. We should stay away from Zhang Manlin, what if she steals our boyfriends?”

“That’s what I was thinking, let’s be on guard.”

The nurses were so immersed in their own conversation that they didn’t notice Huo Mian walking up from behind. Once they saw her face, they immediately fell into an awkward silence.

Vice Director Huo.”

“Mhm, how’s the patient from GK doing?” Huo Mian didn’t care about gossip; all she cared about was the patient herself.

“She’s undergoing surgery, we heard she had a heart attack.”

“Mhm, let me go check.”

Huo Mian didn’t ask the nurses about Qin Chu and Zhang Manlin. Instead, she headed straight up to the operating room.

Zhang Manlin and a nurse sat outside the operating room.

“Manlin, how did you get President Qin to come with you today?”

“President Qin’s a good man, he’s not that scary. You don’t know him, that’s why you think he’s distant.”

“People all say that President Qin only smiles at our vice director, never at other women.”

“Oh yeah? I never noticed. Anyways, I think President Qin’s a good person.” Zhang Manlin smiled as she took a sip of water.

Just then, the nurse saw Huo Mian and her expression immediately changed. She shot up from her seat. “Hi, Vice Director Huo.”

Zhang Manlin turned around as well…
