At that point, Lin Nuan turned to Camera #2 and continued, “I experienced the Iraq War, I’ve seen corpses scattered across burnt lands, I know what it’s like to live in trepidation, and I’ve experienced the most helpless despair in war! I’ve had a gun pointed to my forehead, thinking death was about to descend upon me. Yet, I was rescued from the god of death by this group of people!”

“In 2011, during the evacuation of Chinese nationals from Libya, our country deployed 182 Chinese civil aviation charters, five cargo ships, four military aircraft, and rented more than 20 overseas passenger liners. There are still people who remember… the tear-jerking scene of our nationals loudly singing our national anthem with tears in their eyes while they were detained at the checkpoint and not allowed to pass.”

As he listened to Lin Nuan’s powerful voice, a layer of goosebumps rose over Xing Feng’s body, emotions starting to well up inside of him.

Lin Nuan then turned to Camera #1. “In 2014, during the evacuation of nationals from Iraq, I was part of it! Being overseas… the feeling of not being given up on by my home country, being rescued and brought back home! No one can feel it more deeply than those who have experienced it!”

“These are more high profile cases of the evacuation of nationals, and there have been more operations like this! Such as during the New Zealand earthquake… Before other countries could react, and while citizens of other countries were still trying and failing to get through to their ambassadors on the phone, our country’s ambassador had already booked a plane to help evacuate our citizens who were there as tourists. The speed astounded the world! When the forest fire in Israel happened, it was once again our country who… at the very first instant, evacuated our overseas students from that place of danger!

“When we look at these reports, or after we experience such events, what are our feelings? Agitated and overwhelmed! We feel that our home country is strong and powerful, and we love our home country even more! I feel from the bottom of my heart that… what truly makes one proud of their country, what’s truly able to display its greatness, is that in times of unrest or natural disaster, our home country can bring us home at the first instant!”

Lin Nuan’s impassioned speech made those present overwhelmed with emotions!

Our country naturally wouldn’t report such news, for they are soldiers. In their eyes… a soldier’s greatest mission is to use their life and warm blood to protect the civilians of their nation! Sacrifice is but an ordinary matter!”

“In 2014, I returned home from Iraq, but many young special forces soldiers have remained there forever, unable to return home ever again!” As Lin Nuan said this, her voice started choking, her eyes turning awfully red.

Miss Xia stared at the audience number, her heart jumping very fast…

[Girl born in the 90s: I know of this uncle who lived upstairs from us, who used to be a soldier. Later, he lost both of his eyes and came back after retiring from the army. Many many years later, when that uncle was no longer around, my older brother came back after serving in the military, and we found out that he used to be a special forces soldier. My older brother found out when he saw that uncle on a list of exemplary soldiers published by the army. That uncle had taken part in a confidential operation and got injured while trying to protect the safety of our head of state. Hence, he had to retire! I remember that uncle later made a living by repairing household appliances, living in poverty. I feel that our heroes shouldn’t have such an ending! They protected our country at the expense of their health and lives, yet after they got injured, there was no one to look after them! My heart aches especially bad seeing this!]
