He stopped typing and stared at the message from Song Qingchun. Then, his brows creased into a light frown.

She asked why he was not yet home, not if he had returned home.

Still not home… how did she know I’m still not home? She’s there?

Su Zhinian’s frown deepened and deleted the message he was typing. He thought it about and abandoned the messaging altogether. Instead, he gave Song Qingchun a call.

The phone rang twice before it was picked up. Song Qingchun’s dulcet tone then drifted through. “Hello?”

Su Zhinian didn’t say anything but focused on the situation on Song Qingchun’s end.

“Why aren’t you talking?” Song Qingchun asked after she waited for him to speak for a few seconds.

As Song Qingchun’s voice came through the line, Su Zhinian heard the voice of a middle-aged man. He was very familiar with that voice. He would hear it every day at home. It was the voice of the owner two doors down from him, calling his daughter to come down for dinner, so he was right.

Su Zhinian wanted to ask, ‘Are you at my place?’

But the words merely reached his throat. He realized she couldn’t hear the sounds that he could hear, so he changed the question. “…How did you know I’m not home?”

Su Zhinian purposely paused for a second; before Song Qingchun could answer, he asked in a mock-questioning tone, “Are you at my place again?”

Song Qingchun then realized the message that she had sent were a huge give-away. She was directly telling him she was indeed at his place. Song Qingchun gripped her phone tightly and uttered a soft, “Yes.”

Then she hurried to explain, “I happened to pass your place when I remembered I have something important to talk to you about, so I turned into your driveway. I didn’t know you aren’t home…”

“What…” Before Su Zhinian could finish, the door to the bathroom was pushed open, and the client he was meeting that night, CEO Lee, poked his half-drunk body in, asking, “CEO Su, why are you hiding in the bathroom?”

“I’ll be back in a minute,” Su Zhinian answered before apologizing to Song Qingchun in a whispered tone. Then he asked, “You mentioned you need to discuss something with me, what is it?”

Song Qingchun’s excuse was to return Su Zhinian’s black card, but when she heard the conversation between him and the other man, she realized he had a business dinner that night. She understood he couldn’t pull himself away, so she said understandingly, “It’s nothing important. I don’t want to disturb you, so we can talk about it another day.”

Su Zhinian, on the other end of the phone, was silent for a moment before saying something that had nothing to do with their current conversation. “Have you had dinner?”

Song Qingchun startled for a minute before replying, “Not yet.”

“Then, come to Eldorado, my business will wrap up soon enough. We’ll have dinner together.” After a pause, Su Zhinian asked, “You’re free for the night, right?”

“Yes,” Song Qingchun answered. “Then, I’ll see you at Eldorado.”

Song Qingchun stepped into the Eldorado lobby. Before the waiter came to serve her, Cheng Qingchong came to her and said, “Miss Song, welcome.”

Song Qingchun nodded and turned to look around, but she couldn’t find Su Zhinian.
