And just like that Shen Zichen managed to piss Mu Jianyu off. Li Xiuying might have turned him down for good but that didn’t mean he would let this chance to annoy Mu Jianyu to death slip from his hand.

“Ying told me you want to divorce her. Why? Have you finally realized that an insignificant pest like you doesn’t deserve her? Mu Jianyu, I think I should thank you for giving back Ying’s freedom.” He added sarcastically. He could already imagine how mad Mu Jianyu was right now as he spoke to him.

“Shen Zichen!” This man’s shamelessness really didn’t know any boundaries! Shen Zichen was really an expert in putting on airs.

“I don’t see why you should be angry with me. Shouldn’t you be moving on with your life and leave Ying at peace? After all, aren’t you the one who called it quits between the two of you?”

“Whether I want to talk with my wife or not is none of you fucking business,” Mu Jianyu countered. He forced down the sickening feeling that Li Xiuying had decided to truly move on in her life without him.

He reignited his car and drove towards the penthouse where Li Xiuying was staying. Shen Zichen must be with her but why were Ying’s bodyguards letting her be alone with another man when their divorce wasn’t settled yet.

Rage bottled up inside of him. Those people around Li Xiuying didn’t really approve of him and preferred Shen Zichen over him. Even his wife didn’t make a fuss over their divorce and accepted it willingly.

Mu Jianyu couldn’t understand why.

Why? Was it because he wasn’t born from a wealthy family like Shen Zichen? Was it because he was born as a commoner so they looked down on him?

For as long as he could remember, Mu Jianyu knew Shen Zichen had been looking down on him. Whether it was because of his social status or the fact that he took Li Xiuying from him, Mu Jianyu wasn’t sure.

However, because he was Li Xiuying’s childhood friend, he couldn’t force her to stay away from Shen Zichen for fear that she would think that he was sowing discord between her and her friend.

In the end, he felt an enormous need to prove something to everyone; to prove that he was worthy to stand beside Li Xiuying. This strong need became restless, forcing him to go beyond his limitations, letting his insecurities and weaknesses get the best of him.

“You already had her, so why did you let her go?” Shen Zichen’s question reached his ears. His laugh was mocking, successfully creating a bitter feeling inside Mu Jianyu.

Indeed, why… Why did he let her go in the first place? His mind was telling him to be free but his heart refused to be parted from her.

Mu Jianyu couldn’t contain his anger, not only towards Shen Zichen but also towards himself. He was mad at himself. This confusing feeling he had for Li Xiuying had been bugging him for days. He was angry and indignant and wasn’t able to calm down.

Now listening to Shen Zichen’s words felt like knives being stabbed on his chest one by one with its undeniable truth. His turmolous feeling worsened at every insult Shen Zichen uttered against him.

“You still call her your wife?” Shen Zichen couldn’t help but laugh. “How dare you say that when in fact you’ve mistreated her these past weeks? Your exaggerated reaction right now is making me nauseous, Mu Jianyu. Don’t worry, if the day comes when we decid to tie the knot, I’ll surely not forget to invite you on our special day.”

Not able to endure Shen Zichen’s demeaning words, he hung up on him and accelerated his car, eager to see the bastard who coveted after his wife.

Shen Zichen wasn’t surprised when Mu Jianyu hung up to him. He passed Li Xiuying’s phone back to Song Zexi before checking the time on his wrist watch. The sadistic smile on his face vanished.

He couldn’t believe he had to use Ying to spite Mu Jianyu. He had been reduced to using her to get an upper hand against Ying’s husband. Mu Jianyu had also used Ying to torture him so how was his behavior now any different from the bastard who used Ying?

Mu Jianyi was still on the road, driving. Given that he heard the fast ignition of the car on the other end of the line, he assumed that the man was eager to find him and Ying in the same place.

A sick part of Shen Zichen wondered how Mu Jianyu would react if he found them on the same bed. Would he understand the pain he’d given to Li Xiuying?

Fifteen minutes later, the doorbell of the penthouse rang. Su Ling and Song Zexi checked the security cam and found Mu Jianyu standing outside with a disgruntled expression on his face.

“What should we do? Should we let him in?” Song Zexi asked Su Ling indecisively.

While Mu Jianyu was their Miss’s husband, this place was owned by the Li twins and Li Chuntao specifically instructed them not to let him step into her sacred place or they would pay a price in return.

The two would never dare to disobey her order but what if Miss Ying let him inside? Miss Chuntao couldn’t possibly blame them for it, right?

Before they could decide what to do next, Shen Zichen took the initiative and answered the door.

“What are you doing here?” Mu Jianyu demanded.

“I could ask you the same question, Mr. Mu. What are you doing late at night outside your ex-wife’s doorstep?” Shen Zichen countered him.
