She turned and found Nian Junting standing by her side holding a dish with one hand. On his dish were two to-go boxes, one for desserts, one for snacks. While getting food, he was also talking on the phone, “Luo, I got you a scallop. What else do you want? Up to me? Alright, I’ll get you a little of everything… Wait for me. I’ll be home soon.”

He put the tongs on the table, then put the phone back into his trouser pocket. After that, he turned, looked at Mo Jin and said, “Ms. Morrison, what a small world.”

Mo Jin raised her eyebrows, looked at the food in his dish and stayed silent. Nian Junting carefully observed her eyes and face. He licked his tongue silently. He hadn’t paid too much attention to her face yesterday but today, as he looked closely, he found that she looked a lot like Luosang. He should have noticed it earlier.

“I’m sorry for taking your scallop. My girlfriend loves them too,” he said.

“Are you guys living together?” Mo Jin asked.

“Yeah.” Nian Junting picked up the tongs and continued taking food. Meanwhile he said, “She didn’t have a mother and her father isn’t with her. She was out there all alone. I was really worried about her. Last time, she was suddenly ill with a fever and her roommate wasn’t in the city. No one was there to take care of her. So this summer vacation, I asked her to move in with me.”

Hearing him mention that Luosang was once ill, Mo Jin felt heartache. Without her, Luosang must have suffered a lot of pain and bitterness.

“I don’t think we’re allowed to take the food away,” Mo Jin reminded him.

At a formal dinner party like this, most of the guests would follow the rules.

All the people who were invited to this kind of place were rich and high-status. They would rarely pack the food and take it away.

“I know, but my girlfriend really has a good appetite. Later, I’ll tell the host of the party about this. He’s a friend of mine,” Nian Junting said while packing food. “She can finish four boxes of food like these easily.”

Mo Jin didn’t respond. She had a good appetite herself, but she was still surprised by how much her daughter could eat.

“Previously, something bad happened in her family. For a whole year, she could only afford tofu and cabbages. So after that, her appetite got better and better.”

Nian Junting sighed, “When I learned about her past, I swore that I’d give her all the best food in the world.”
