Her face was suddenly inches away from another man’s. She then fell on her rear end. “What are you doing?” She was shocked when she rubbed her eyes and saw the man clearly. Although the alley was dark, the moon above cast a dim glow on the man’s face. His handsome features made the moon pale in comparison. He was wearing a white Nike tracksuit, and his features looked like they were carefully carved, a gift from the gods. His eyes were pure and bright, his lips alluring and perfect. He was watching her quietly, his log lashes framing unblinking eyes.

Nian Xi was stunned for a moment, but she quickly picked herself up and asked, “What do you want?”

The man looked up and blinked, his eyelashes fluttering in the moonlight. Nian Xi noticed a dirty patch on his pants and remembered that she had knocked into someone. She quickly said, “Did I bump into you? My apologies, I was chasing after a thief. Damn, that really hurt! I nearly broke my nose back there.”

The man stood up and towered over Nian Xi. He had a youthful charm.

“Um… I’ll get going, then. Goodbye.” Nian Xi waved her hands and turned to leave. After walking along for a while, she noticed that the man was still following behind her. Although he was a handsome chap, it gave her goosebumps to know that someone was following her in such a dark alley.

She stopped in her tracks and turned around. “Are you hurt in any way? Do you want me to compensate you? You’d better think twice if you want to exploit me. I am a policewoman on duty. I was just doing my job.”

The man blinked and continued to stare at her quietly. It must have been a minute before Nian Xi said sympathetically, “You are… a mute?” What a shame that such a handsome man is mute, she thought to herself.

God was fair, indeed. She was another example. She had such an envy-worthy background, and she was pretty, but her romantic relationship was far from smooth sailing.

The man stayed quiet and slowly looked down. He reminded her of the puppy her family had when she was a kid. He was cute, but he wasn’t her type. “Have you fallen in love with me?” Nian Xi said softly, “Go home, I like strong, manly guys.” She turned to leave, but he was still following her.

“You’re harassing me now.” Nian Xi put her hands on her waist. “I told you I don’t like you.”

The man looked down and fished out a writing pad and a pen. He wrote, “I’m lost” in elegant handwriting.

Nian Xi breathed a sigh of relief. Thank goodness. She had thought he was pestering her for no good reason. She hadn’t knocked the sense out of him, after all. “Where is your home?” Nian Xi asked, “Do you have your family’s number? You can ask them to come pick you up.”

The man shook his head. He appeared lost and confused.

“How about your phone? Where is your phone?” Nian Xi asked agitatedly.

The man shook his head once more and wrote, “I don’t have one.”

Nian Xi was flabbergasted. Who the hell is he? Who doesn’t have a phone? she wondered. “Alright, follow me back to the station,” she finally said in exasperation.

They emerged from the alley after walking for another ten minutes. The police car was still in the same spot, and her colleague smiled at her when he saw her. “Xi, I can’t believe how good you are at the job. You managed to catch the thief! Damn, he is a good-looking fellow, too good looking to be a thief.”
