Her gentle words were like the summer breeze, calming the anxiety within him and bringing him peace. He looked up to where she was pointing. The night was adorned with glowing stars above them. He had never noticed how beautiful the night sky was where they were.

Nian Junting looked down at the woman beside him. Her eyes were the reflection of the starry night sky, and she looked as gorgeous and as beautiful as the stars. His heartbeat quickened, and his large hand pressed against the back of her hand.

Luo Sang felt his hot lips quickly overwhelm hers. Her lips were sweet and soft. He hadn’t kissed her in three days, but it felt like it had been three years. His tongue navigated swiftly into her mouth, and they were absorbed in a moment of passion. They both let out soft moans, and the sounds escaping from Luo Sang’s mouth set his body on fire.

There was a honk from behind, and Nian Junting had to break the kiss to inch the car forward. Luo Sang pursed her moist lips in slight embarrassment. The car came to a halt yet again, and Nian Junting said to her, “These stars aren’t that spectacular. Have you seen the night sky in Tibet? When I was at Rutog for duty, it felt like the stars were within reach.”

“Where is Rutog?”

“The most western side of Tibet.”

“That’s too far. I won’t be able to go there. My body wouldn’t be able to take it.” Luo Sang smiled.

“Let’s go stargazing at sea, then. The night sky there is pretty spectacular, too.” Nian Junting smiled.

“…” Why was he talking about the seaside? They were pretty far away from it.

“Let’s go to the seaside during your winter break, after Chinese New Year.” Nian Junting laughed lightly. “I’ll go ask Lu Kang where exactly we should go.”

The two of them were stuck in the traffic jam until eight o’clock before the roads cleared up. However, by the time they arrived at the Italian restaurant, the manager informed them that they had had to give another customer their table because they were too late.

Nian Junting wasn’t willing to compromise by going to another, possibly subpar, restaurant, so Luo Sang offered to cook for him at home instead. Before they went home, they stopped by the police station to drop off the gift for Nian Xi.

Nian Xi was wearing her police uniform and holding a box of take-out when she came out to meet them. Nian Junting frowned at the sight of her and said, “Why are you eating so late, and what on earth are you eating? I think Xiaosi has better food than you do. It’s Christmas Eve, after all. Why do you have to work overtime anyway?”

“Come on, how can you compare your dog to me? You don’t understand, there will be more accidents happening on Christmas Eve, especially in bars and supper places.” Nian Xi giggled. “I wanted to rest, but someone else asked me to cover for them since they wanted to spend the occasion with their loved ones. Ji Chuan isn’t around to accompany me anyway, so I took this shift willingly.”

Nian Junting looked a little torn and said, “Don’t work overtime too much. You’re not even married yet. Don’t tire yourself out, or you’ll look like an old hag soon.”

“Wow, look at you, caring for me. You’ve grown to show concern for those around you after being in a relationship,” Nian Xi exclaimed. “I know, I know. I won’t be like this once I marry Ji Chuan.”

“Don’t always talk about Ji Chuan.” Nian Junting reprimanded her.

“What are you saying? Come on, Ji Chuan is your brother, too.” Nian Xi was baffled.

Luo Sang interjected quickly, “He’s just worried about you.”

Nian Xi was shocked for a moment before shuddering. “Don’t make me cringe, sister.”

“Go on. Go on your date, guys. Don’t let me get in your way. I have things to handle back in the station, too.” Nian Xi waved goodbye to them.
