She turned around and noticed Nian Xi’s troubled face. She realized how insensitive and ignorant the man was.

“It’s alright, Sangsang can help me. You… should excuse yourself,” said Nian Xi weakly, but with a firm gaze.

Jiang Yuning felt like a deflated balloon—he was instantly dejected. He didn’t dare object, so he walked out of the room with his head hung low.

After he had walked out, Luosang laughed, “It’s alright, isn’t it? I don’t believe you guys just stopped at holding hands, kissing, and hugging.”

She knew a thing or two about these things, so she easily noticed how intimate their relationship had gotten.

Nian Xi was a little embarrassed. Luckily, she had lost a bit too much blood the night before, so she couldn’t even blush. “Sangsang, would you take a piss in front of my brother? Huh? Would you?”

Luosang was taken aback by her choice of words.

“I have to save some dignity for myself.” Nian Xi sighed. “I’m already super embarrassed in my current state. I look so ill and pale. I don’t want him to see me pooping and peeing all over either—I don’t think I’d be able to live with that for the rest of my life.”

“I don’t think Professor Jiang would mind at all. Besides, he looked quite hurt when you rejected him earlier.” Luosang laughed, “Men are silly sometimes—they never know what women are thinking.”

Jiang Yuning specifically was quite oblivious to things going on around him. When he came back into the room, he checked the bedpan under the bed. He looked at Luosang with a troubled expression. “Just leave it next time. I can pour it away.”

Nian Xi pulled her blanket over her face and said with embarrassment, “Jiang Yuning, why do you have to talk so much?”

Jiang Yuning thought that she was complaining about the amount of noise he was making, so he kept quiet after that.

Uncle Han delivered lunch to them, and Jiang Yuning fed Nian Xi in the afternoon.

At around two o’clock, the doctor went over to do an electrocardiogram on Nian Xi. When he looked around the room, he thought that Jiang Yuning was Luosang’s boyfriend and asked, “Why isn’t your boyfriend around today? He came to ask me about your condition this morning. He seemed pretty concerned.”

Nian Xi was a little confused. “Doctor Liao, you must be mistaken.”

Her boyfriend was sitting right there with his back straight and his face confused.

“Mistaken?” Doctor Liao was puzzled. “That tall man with tanned skin… Isn’t that your boyfriend? He looked quite manly.”

Nian Xi knew who he was referring to instantly. She was a little surprised—she thought that Feng Jichuan had already left early in the morning. She didn’t know that he went to the doctor to check up on her.

As Nian Xi was distracted, Jiang Yuning quickly stood up to introduce himself to the doctor. “I am her boyfriend.”

The doctor was a little surprised. He realized that he had made a mistake and corrected himself, “I’m sorry, I haven’t met you before…”

Jiang Yuning was disappointed. If he had arrived earlier, the doctor wouldn’t have made that mistake. He said to Doctor Liao, “Please update me about my girlfriend’s condition in the future. Also, I’m really grateful to you for saving my girlfriend’s life.”

He formally shook the doctor’s hand. “I will always remember your kindness and benevolence.”

The doctor was speechless.

Nian Xi was embarrassed by his shameless display of gratitude.

Jiang Yuning took his phone and asked, “Can I please have your number?”

After the doctor had given him his number, Jiang Yuning added, “Can I add you on WeChat, QQ, or even have your email address? Just in case I can’t reach you on your phone, I’d rest easier if there’s another way of contacting you.”

The doctor, with beads of sweat dripping all over, replied nervously, “Don’t worry, you can definitely reach me on the phone. Doctors have to keep our cellphones turned on 24/7.”
