Since three months had already passed, Li Meili was glad that her Little Leyan was now able to sleep longer at night, allowing her to sleep more these days. Little Leyan was pretty happy, especially when she was being held by Zhang Jiren. 

Li Meili had already expected that her daughter would prefer her stepfather’s company over her, and she couldn’t help but feel upset at times. If people saw her husband and daughter in public, she had no doubt they wouldn’t believe that Leyan wasn’t Zhang Jiren’s biological daughter considering how close the two were to each other. 

‘This little traitor. Look how she smiles widely when Zhang Jiren holds her.’ Li Meili sulked, watching her daughter being held by her husband, having their own version of a conversation, while her parents watched the two with wide smiles on their faces. 

Today was the exact day Leyan turned three months old, and the first anniversary of her marriage to Zhang Jiren. Since Li Meili’s parents rarely came to Shenzhen to see them, they decided to organize a party at home. During the day, Li Meili hadn’t got the chance to hold her baby, as Leyan was passed from one person to another, and bottle-fed by whoever was holding her at the time she felt hunger. 

“Why are you sulking in the corner, Meili?” Tang Moyu asked. The empress and Gu Yuyao who was holding her son sat next to her.

“Leyan,” Li Meili said as if it was the most obvious thing right now. “Why do I feel like I am her nanny and not her mother? Just look how she prefers being held by Zhang Jiren than by me.” She scowled. 

Gu Yuyao laughed gently, keeping her voice low, not wanting to wake up the sleeping child in her arms. 

“Shouldn’t you be glad that they are getting along really well? I have to admit though, that I didn’t perceive Zhang Jiren would become a good father to Leyan, considering how stern he looks at everyone,” she admitted. 

“I could say the same thing to your husband, though,” Li Meili pointed out.

Zhang Jiren a good father? Ha! Of course! 

Since she gave birth to Leyan, taking care of her seemed to come naturally to Zhang Jiren. There were times that his business associates who came to visit would praise Zhang Jiren for being able to take care of Leyan in spite of his busy schedule. 

“Well at least you were able to return to your figure pre-pregnancy,” Gu Yuyao chuckled. “Look at me; I look like an overgrown apple. It’s hard to shed all the excess weight I gained during pregnancy.” 

“That’s because Moyu gave me an exercise routine. I started as soon as Dr. Huang gave me a go signal to exercise.” Li Meili grinned. From the corner of her eye, she saw the little buns climb up to their seats to take a look at the two tiered cake they made with Feng Tianyi for her daughter. 

The cake looked tempting to eat, but Li Meili knew better than to eat too much sweets when her husband was around, ready to reprimand her. 

It wasn’t easy for her too to shed the weight she gained before, but with Zhang Jiren’s help in monitoring the food she was eating daily, she was able to return to her pre-pregnancy figure in no time. In fact, she looked better than before. 

“Moyu! That’s unfair. You could have shared it with me too,” Gu Yuyao complained to the empress. Li Meili’s body was slimmer than the last time Gu Yuyao had seen her, and she looked more voluptuous than usual too. Her chest looked fuller because she also b.r.e.a.s.tfed Little Leyan. 

“I’ll forward the routine I gave Meili to you. You can try the low impact version first to test it out, Sister Yaoyao. Meili was able to lose so much weight because she could handle the high impact version,” the empress told her. 

After the party, Chairman Li asked his daughter to allow him to take Leyan with them for the night. The old man really wanted to spoil his first grandchild rotten, but he hadn’t gotten a good chance to do so. 

“Just one night. Is that okay with you, Jiren?” he asked his son-in-law. “You and Meili haven’t enjoyed your time on your own, right?”

Zhang Jiren glanced at his wife to make a decision for Leyan. He was just a stepfather; he had no rights to say anything about their set up at all. 

Li Meili crossed her arms and raised a slender brow at her father while her mother held Leyan in her arms. 

“Are you sure you can handle her?” she asked them seriously. Aside from her and Zhang Jiren, Leyan rarely allowed other people to hold her for too long. The only exception would be Tang Moyu, as Little Leyan would immediately doze off against the empress’s bosom each time Tang Moyu held her. 

Chairman Li waved a hand before glancing at his granddaughter. 

“Of course. We have many nannies at home to attend to her needs. Since when was the last time you and your husband had time alone? Don’t you pity, Jiren? I’m sure he’d been enduring for so long not getting some.” Her mother giggled beside her father. 

“Mom!” Li Meili exclaimed, her whole face now burning red from her father’s remark. She and Zhang Jiren might be husband and wife, but she never fulfilled her duties as his wife in bed! 

“What? Stop overacting, Meili. You two haven’t planned Leyan anyway, so what are you embarrassed about?” Madam Li countered, liking the way how Li Meili looked fl.u.s.tered beside her son-in-law. Even Zhang Jiren had a slight blush on his face.

“It’s been three months, Dad. Don’t you think that it’s still too early for you to ask for another grandchild?” Of course, Li Meili knew what was going on in her parents’ mind. 

“Well, there’s nothing wrong in hoping that we would see a little Jiren running around with Leyan soon, don’t you think, dear?” Madam Li asked with a cheeky smile.

“Mom…” Li Meili wanted the ground to swallow her whole from embarrassment right then and there. How could they embarrass her like this in front of her husband? 

Once the party was done, the villa where Zhang Jiren and Li Meili lived suddenly fell silent without their friends and housekeepers. Chairman Li had really chased everyone away, leaving them on their own. 

“Well, isn’t this awkward?” Li Meili asked as she stood in the empty living room next to her husband. Did they really think she would really sleep with Zhang Jiren? 

“Indeed,” Zhang Jiren agreed with her, not knowing what to do, now that Leyan wasn’t there to break the awkwardness between them.
