“Do you think we should knock on his door?” Little Star suggested. 

Seeing that they had no other choice but to check the only room they haven’t checked yet, Xiao bao agreed with his sister. The sound of their light pattering feet could be heard from the hallway before both of them stopped just outside Qin Jiran’s door. 

The little buns shared a knowing look before nodding to each other. On cue, the little boy raised his fist and knocked on the door. 

“Uncle Ji, are you there? It’s already morning.” Xiao Bao called out for their Daddy Ji, but there was no response from inside the room. 

Xiao Bao frowned and looked at his sister. “Perhaps, he’s not home.” 

Why hadn’t he thought of that possibility? Maybe Daddy Ji left last night and their Mommy was still asleep back at the main house. There couldn’t be any other explanation why they were missing at the same time. 

“That can’t be! Daddy and Mommy would have told us he would be leaving today.” Little Star argued. “Let’s just take a look inside to see if he’s still asleep.” 

The little girl held the door handle and opened the door with ease. She and her brother were careful not to make any noise, just in case Daddy Ji was indeed still asleep. 

However, the two little buns weren’t prepared to see the sight on the massive bed inside their Daddy’s room. 

Just as Little Star predicted, Qin Jiran was still asleep, although the sun was already up for hours. However, her young innocent mind would never assume that their Daddy Ji wasn’t the only one sleeping in his bed. 

Daddy Ji slept with their Mommy?

There, splayed on the bed, sleeping next to their Daddy Ji, was none other than their mother! How could this possibly be? The two little buns were both wondering earlier where their Mommy and Daddy went, but it never crossed their minds that they were together, sleeping on the same bed!

Tang Moyu was sleeping on her side. Her arm was splayed over Qin Jiran’s torso while a leg was forbidding him to move away from her vice grip hold. She was still wearing the same evening dress she had on last night, but her face was clean with no speck of makeup on her bare face. 

Both the little buns stood still with wide eyes, both wondering what their Mommy was doing in their Daddy Ji’s bed. Shouldn’t she be sleeping back at the main house and not here? 

“What’s Mommy doing here?” Little Star whispered to her brother, who also had no idea why their Mommy was sleeping here with their Daddy Ji. 

Did she break her promise to him last night and came home drunk? 

So long as their Mommy would end up with their Daddy Ji in the future, it should be okay, right? He thought. 

“I have no idea.” Xiao Bao muttered to himself. What could have happened last night that made their Mommy sleep on their Daddy Ji’s bed? 

Still, the idea of his mother coming home late at night being drunk didn’t please the young boy. He would need to remind their Mommy later about the rules they set together for her sake. 

If it wasn’t their Daddy Ji who was sleeping next to their Mommy, Xiao Bao knew that he wouldn’t be able to stop his rage at that moment. Mommy rarely broke her promises, but when she did, she always made sure not to do it again. 

“Should we wake them up?” Little Star asked curiously. The sun was already high up in the sky, but Daddy Ji and Mommy had decided to sleep in. 

Xiao Bao sighed and shook his head. His obsidian eyes staring at the sleeping face of his mother. 

“Let them sleep in. Mommy and Daddy must be tired last night.” He replied. 

There’s no helping it, because Xiao Bao felt a bit guilty for being the one who pushed their mother towards Daddy Ji anyway. 

The two took a seat next to the bed, waiting for the adults to wake up. It can’t be helped anyway since there’s nothing else they could do.

An hour later, it was Qin Jiran who first squirmed on the bed. Upon waking, he didn’t open his eyes, but snuggled himself closer to the warmth next to him. It felt weird at first, but wasn’t unwelcomed in his opinion. The scent next to him was also familiar and gentle to his nose, something that he rarely paid attention to. 

Where did that scent come from? It was soothing and comforting at the same time. 

However, he felt the brightness from outside hit his face, informing him that it was already morning. Slowly and reluctantly, Qin Jiran pulled away from the comfortable warmth beside him and turned to his side.

He blinked, closed his eyes, and blinked again. Streaks of sunlight penetrated the sliding glass door and blinded him. He sat up, dragged his torso with the help of the headboard of the bed, before rubbing his knuckles on his eyes, hoping it would drive his sleepiness away. 

The moment he opened his eyes, he regretted not waking up earlier. Two smiling little buns were looking at him straight in the eyes. They looked like they were happy about something that morning. 

“Good morning, Da-” Little Star’s words halted when she felt a light pinch from her brother. 

“Good morning, Uncle Ji!” Little Star corrected herself. “Did you sleep well?” 

Feng Tianyi’s eyes then shifted to the woman sleeping beside him and chastised himself repeatedly in his mind.
