Gu Yuyao together with the Tang twins, Lu Tianxin and Luo Luo had come back from their shopping. Li Meili came a little later with a basket of fruits for Qin Jiran as she heard from Moyu that he was sick and she was looking after him today. 

But what surprised them the most was seeing Ye Xiaozu and Elaine Wu arriving with Lu Tianxin. 

“Ye Xiaozu is here? What the hell is happening?” Tang Moyu muttered behind the devil. 

“Who’s the other woman with him?” Feng Tianyi gestured towards Elaine Wu. 

“She’s that woman Tianxin and I helped the other night. She said her name is Elaine Wu. Ever heard of her?”

Even Tang Moyu was curious about the woman’s identity. If she was with Ye Xiaozu, would this mean Elaine Wu was his fiancee? The empress wasn’t pleased with the sudden turn of events between her cousin and President Ye. 

“Yaoyao, what’s going on?” She asked Gu Yuyao, since the latter was the one who went out with Lu Tianxin earlier. 

The Gu heiress shrugged and took a bite of the sliced apples Tang Moyu had prepared for Feng Tianyi, much to the devil’s irritation. She ignored the way he was glaring daggers her way and answered her friend. 

“Seems like Ye Xiaozu finally found out about Luo Luo and wanted an explanation from Sister Tianxin,” She explained. 

“Then what about Elaine Wu?” Tang Moyu continued to probe. 

“Apparently, she was his fiancee. Was. because they just broke up before meeting us earlier.” 

Tang Moyu looked at Elaine Wu who fawned over her twins, as she excitedly played with them and Luo Luo. Li Meili joined them as they played with toy blocks that the little buns had left at the guest house the other day. 

Gu Yuyao laughed as she watched them. 

“You should be careful next time, Moyu. One day, talent scouts might come knocking on your door to offer prospective projects for your little buns. Elaine Wu fell in love with their charm the moment she saw them.” 

The empress scowled at that. She just wanted her children to grow up in a normal environment, like any other children. There’s no need for them to join showbusiness to earn money when she made more than enough to support all of them.

However, she also knew that Gu Yuyao had a point. Xiao Bao and Little Star were just so irresistibly charming that she hadn’t seen a person who wouldn’t succumb to their cuteness. 

But what else could she do? 

It wasn’t like she’d expected that both Xiao Bao and Little Star would inherit the best features of herself and their unknown father. For a moment, she wondered if that man would be able to recognize his own children when he saw them.

Seeing her soured expression, Feng Tianyi held her wrist, stopping her from cutting her own finger as she peeled the skin of the apple on her hand. 

“You’ve peeled enough, Moyu,” he told her. “What is it?” He asked, wanting to know what made her frown.

“Just thinking about their father.” Tang Moyu admitted. 

Gu Yuyao’s brows shot up, hitting her fringe. She didn’t say anything, but Feng Tianyi frowned. Just what made her think of that man again? 

“What about him?” 

“I just thought that he might recognize Xiao Bao and Little Sister in case he saw them…” Her tone was so low, that Feng Tianyi would’ve missed it if she wasn’t sitting next to him. 

He took her hands and entangled their fingers together, understanding what was running through her mind.

“He won’t take them away from us. I promise you.”

The devil rarely swore or promised anything to others, but for Tang Moyu, he was willing to do everything he could just to make her happy. 

Tang Moyu looked at him and wondered if he could really keep his words if it happened. She really wanted to completely trust him, to allow herself to nurture this feeling she had for him but… but being betrayed once, she wasn’t sure if she could overcome her fear of rejection. The thought that Feng Tianyi might grow tired of her one day kept poisoning her mind.

Not only that, if this didn’t work out between the two of them, then what would her twins feel about it? Tang Moyu didn’t want to cause heart aches and distress to her twins. This was why she was willing to stay away from dating and marriage, for their sake. 

“Don’t you trust me?” Feng Tianyi asked as if he could read her thoughts. But before Tang Moyu could give him her answer, Little Star came towards them and looked at her Uncle Ji who still looked ghastly pale due to his illness.

“Uncle Ji, are you feeling better now?” She asked before glancing towards her mother. “You aren’t fighting with Mommy, are you?” 

Gu Yuyao laughed uncontrollably across the empress and the devil, clearly understanding what the little girl meant.

“I feel a little better now, Little Star. Thank you for your concern.” Feng Tianyi pretended as if nothing happened earlier.

Feng Tianyi coughed and looked away while the empress sitting next to him blushed so hard, she wished that the ground would swallow her whole to save her from further embarrassment. How was she supposed to explain to Little Star what she’d seen earlier? 

“Don’t worry about your Uncle Ji, Little Star. I assure you, your Mommy is taking really good care of him~” Gu Yuyao told the girl in a mocking tone, which only made the atmosphere awkward between the devil and the empress.
