Chapter 86: A Message

Li Ran was anxious. Sweat kept falling from her face. She even gave her command out loud in hopes that the vines would let go of her car.

However, the vines just kept intertwining with each other. If they did not break free soon, they would be wrapped into a big cocoon! If that happened, they would not be able to escape anymore.

The car was being slowly crushed. It was so tense that Li Ran bit her lips until they bled. Wang Gang saw it and felt a little sorry for her.

Suddenly, the car landed on the ground. Everyone rushed out. They had managed to get away!

Everyone was silent and the atmosphere gradually improved. They heaved a sigh of relief although fear still lingered in their hearts.

Li Ran admitted, “I couldn’t control them. Maybe it was luck that I managed to succeed at the last moment. I did not kill those people.”

This time, everyone believed her. Wang Gang smiled bitterly and said, “The world is unfair. Even the plants have started to mutate. I may be good in combat, but I don’t have any special abilities.”

Yang Shao’s voice was trembling when he spoke, “You’re not the only one. I’m bitter too.” Then, he coughed violently in an attempt to calm himself down

Li Ran took out a packet of tissue paper and used a few pieces to wipe off the sweat on her face. Only then did she manage to compose herself.

A mechanical voice could be heard.

All of them were stunned, especially Wang Gang. It came from the car’s monitor. Li Ran immediately headed back to the car and checked the message.

It was from Lin Nan!

“Ran Ran, I’m at Luban Avenue in Pingyang district. There’s a small safety base here. If you’re unable to get here, tell me your location so I can pick you up.”

It was hard to hide the excitement plastered on Li Ran’s face.

She tried to dial Lin Nan’s number but the line would not connect. In the end, she gave up.

Li Ran accessed the GPS to search for the place that Lin Nan had mentioned. Then, she set it as her next destination.

Before anyone could react, Li Ran said, “I’m going to this place. If you want to go somewhere else, just let me know. We’ll split the supplies equally and I’ll drop you at your destination first.”

Zhao Ying quickly replied, “We have nowhere else to go. We’ll follow you to the safety base!”

Going to the safety base really seemed to be the best course of action. The outside world was full of dangers. Zhao Ying felt that if they were to separate from Li Ran, they would end up dead.

Gu Jin agreed, “Yes, going to the safety base is a good idea.”

However, Wang Gang and Yang Shao were silent.

When they heard Gu Jin’s words, Yang Shao laughed bitterly.

“Do you really think that going to the base would guarantee your safety? Don’t joke around. People will definitely play mind games with you. Survivors are very cunning.”

He was not mocking them. Yang Shao was merely advising the naive couple based on his past experience. They should mentally prepare themselves.

“We understand the risks but at least they’ll provide us with some food and water. It’ll be hard for us to scavenge for supplies in the outside world.”

Wang Gang thought for a while and quickly came to a conclusion.

“That place is nothing but trouble! I’d rather survive by myself.”

No matter what, he refused to go to the safety base.

Yang Shao raised his eyebrows.

“Survive by yourself? What about me?”

“You? You can make your own decision. You’ll do whatever you want anyways. I can’t get rid of you even if I wanted to.”

Wang Gang pursed his lips. Although he had only spent a short amount of time with Li Ran and the others, in his eyes, they were good people.

It was unfortunate that they had to go their separate ways. Just thinking about it made Wang Gang a little sad. However, he was a man of steel! He should not let something like this affect him!

Yang Shao snorted and said, “It seems that I have no choice but to accompany and take care of him. I mean, who else would be willing to collect his corpse? He’s a pitiful man.”
