A Star Reborn: The Queen's Return Chapter 1375 Gu Jinxiu’s Drug

Wei Lingnan seemed to have heard that sound, but also not quite. He did not even turn around as he kept his eyes fixed on Xia Yingluo while doing his best to transmit energy to her, despite running low on it himself.

Gu Jinxiu was horrified to witness the scene.

The scent of blood in the air, and the large expense of energy… it didn’t take much thinking to figure out what he was doing!

So much was going on at the banquet. Amidst the chaos of the champagne tower and the balloons exploding, she saw Wei Lingnan dashing towards Xia Yingluo without a care for anything else. He had not even glanced at his bride, nor worried whether she was injured.

Jealousy rose inside Gu Jinxiu.

She stood on the turf, watching bitterly as he helped her up. Then, the golden-green light of the World Tree weaved into an energy cocoon. She rushed forward and tried to break it open, but was deflected by a huge wave of light, causing her to cough blood.

“Miss Gu! Are you alright?” A nearby employee asked, “Why are you coughing blood all of a sudden? Where’s Mr. Wei?”

Gu Jinxiu shook her head but did not respond.

The huge and beautiful cocoon was naked to the human eye, and to the rest of them, it seemed like Wei Lingnan and Xia Yingluo had disappeared into thin air. Although the majority of people around were too busy running for their lives to notice it, a small minority witnessed the situation—like Jiang Yu, who was still in shock.

Her lips suddenly curled into a devious smile.

Shocked? Afraid? Well, Jiang Yu, the woman you fell for isn’t a woman at all, she’s a monster!

She isn’t worthy of your love!

When she thought of it this way, she momentarily forgot that she was that sort of monster too, and so was the man she loved.

The crowd screamed as they fled the scene, while some others—such as Jiang Yu, who witnessed Xia Yingluo’s disappearance—hurriedly gave the Li family a call before looking for her.

Gu Jinxiu had wanted to continue attempting to break the cocoon open, but the energy storm was in full blow now, and she had already sustained a few cuts just by standing still. She dared not stay there anymore and backed away into a small building nearby instead as she kept her eye on the situation. It felt like an eternity before she saw the energy cocoon disintegrate and dissipate. A bloodied Wei Lingnan held onto an unconscious Xia Yingluo came to form slowly, but with a change in the atmosphere, they were gone again.

Gu Jinxiu was frustrated. Had she known that he was going to teleport so many times, she’d have gone straight to the underground base to wait for them!

Among the three of them from the Skatana species, she was the weakest—so weak that she could not use teleportation.

Afraid that things would happen between Wei Lingnan and Xia Yingluo, she quickly got into the car and sped to the base.

But she was still too late. She saw her beloved man kneeling by that woman’s bedside, his face ash-grey like a dead person, evidently fatigued from all the energy he’d been giving to her. “Nan, you can’t do this to yourself!” She screamed and pulled him away. “Let go of her!”

“Don’t come over!” Wei Lingnan’s voice was significantly weaker than usual, but it still carried the same coldness and menace. He kept his bloodshot eyes on Gu Jinxiu, as if ready to kill her anytime if she dared take him away from Xia Yingluo’s side.

Gu Jinxiu’s heart went cold. She wasn’t sure if she was more aggrieved or angry. “You’ll die if you go on this way!”

Wasn’t she the Queen? How could he look at his Queen with such a cold glare?

Rage rose inside her. “Nan, believe it or not, if you die, I’ll kill this woman instantly and bury her with you! Take your hand off her! You can’t give her any more energy!”

Wei Lingnan knew that he wasn’t being polite to her. But at this point, this was the least of his concerns.

“If she dies, I’ll bury myself with her,” he said softly but firmly. “I’m sorry… Jinxiu.”

The name “Jinxiu” seemed to explode by her ear. Ever since she told him about her identity, he’d been calling her “Ah Luo”. Why was he suddenly calling her by her human name now? Gu Jinxiu remembered what Xia Yingluo had mentioned about the true and false Queen, and was suddenly filled with fear. Did Wei Lingnan think she was a false Queen too?

“I’m the Queen, call me Ah Luo!”

Wei Lingnan looked at her weakly. “Tell me the truth, you and Yingluo… who exactly is Ah Luo?”

… Fortunately.

Gu Jinxiu felt the fear subside. Fortunately, it was just a suspicion, he wasn’t actually sure that Xia Yingluo was actually Ah Luo. Gu Jinxiu now had renewed confidence and courage to re-evaluate the situation—no matter what, she had to keep Wei Lingnan alive and kill Xia Yingluo! As long as Xia Yingluo died, Wei Lingnan would have to treat her as Queen, even if he had other suspicions! And this would be the only way they’d live forever!

Once she made up her mind, she pretended to look all worried. “This isn’t the time to talk about it! Nan, what’s most important is to keep you alive now. Don’t you want Xia Yingluo to survive as well? Fine, I’ll help you! Once both of you are well and fine, I’ll prove to you once again that I’m the Queen!”

There was a flicker of light in Wei Lingnan’s tired eyes. “You’re willing to save her?”

“For your sake, I’m willing to do anything.” Gu Jinxiu sighed. “If I don’t save her, you’d rather die with her. I can’t possibly watch you die.” She tried to look pained, hoping for him to feel sorry for her.

But he only had eyes for Xia Yingluo.

“Yingluo can’t hold out much longer,” he said. “Jinxiu, hurry and transfuse some energy to her.”

Gu Jinxiu tried to remain calm. “You know that direct transfusion of energy actually leads to a lot of wastage, that’s why we invented drugs. Teach me how to create a drug, I’ll go prepare two bottles of it for both of you.”

It was a waste indeed, to directly transfuse energy to her. If it wasn’t because this was an emergency situation, Wei Lingnan would never use such an unrefined method to deliver his energy to Xia Yingluo. Upon hearing Gu Jinxiu’s words now, he had no objection. “Alright. But I’ve used up all my resources, I’d have to depend on you to use your energy for the drug.” He looked at Gu Jinxiu apologetically. It was difficult to accumulate energy on Earth, who knew how long it’d take for her to recover this amount once she used it for the drugs.

Gu Jinxiu was upset, but she put on a smile. “Don’t be so formal with me.”

She turned around and left this laboratory, heading for the drug-making laboratory next.

Wei Lingnan was still holding onto Xia Yingluo’s hand. He was pushing his limits, giving her any last bit of energy he had in himself. He did not know whether he could hold it out until Gu Jinxiu came back with the drug, but there was one mantra that pushed him on—

Survive this.
