Starting With Contract Pets Chapter 88

“Get in the car; let’s talk on the way.” Chen Bo pointed to the van lane beside him.

After the driver started the car, he asked, “You all know the rules of this competition, right? Every team has to win against all five opponents for it to be considered a victory. It’s a little difficult, so are you guys confident?”

“We ‘re confident, but the main thing still depends on the final reward. How much money can the town give?” asked Su Bai. Chen Rouxue now had a warlord pet, so he felt like winning was not a big problem.

He mainly hoped for more monetary reward…

Chen Bo: “…” Why is this boy such a money-grubber?

“We’ll definitely reward you with money. Everyone will receive no less than 200,000 yuan, and we’ll add more depending on the competition results. If one of you ends up in the city team, you’ll receive a bigger bonus.”

He said solemnly.

“200,000 yuan is a little less. The main ingredients of my pet medicines cost 100,000 yuan each, so I can’t do anything with that amount.” Su Bai shook his head.

The corners of the adult’s mouth twitched, and he shrugged. “There’s no other way. As I said, it depends on your performance. You might get an extra 200,000 or 300,000 yuan if you perform well.

“You must learn to be content; this is an extra reward for you in the first place. If you win, you’ll have more rewards, and it’ll add up to a large amount.”

The members personally asked to be rewarded with treasure if they won the championship, and the condition was that it could only be a treasure within one level of them.

In other words, with a high-level servant, Su Bai could at most ask for a treasure on the warlord level. A treasure of this level cost 200,000 to 300,000 yuan at most, which was not a very attractive prize.

The main thing was to have the opportunity of entering the city team, or else who would participate in such a competition?

“Okay, the town is so stingy. They really want the horse to run without feeding it. No wonder Carp Town hasn’t developed,” said Su Bai unceremoniously. No money meant no love; it was that simple.

He had already thought of what his championship reward would be and believed that everyone else had, too. In comparison, other treasures were insignificant.

“Do you have any specific information, such as how much bonus they’ll give if we advance to the next round?” he asked, refusing to give up.

“No, but the town’s leaders have already gone down. I can ask them for you, but chances are low.” Chen Bo shrugged.

“Okay, then.” The boy decided to stop asking. He had already known how stingy these people were.

Nobody else talked as they drove silently to the competition venue in the district.

Soon, they arrived at Jiusheng Gymnasium, the site of the contest. A surge of people were inside; all of them were very interested in this kind of competition.

Chen Bo led the team of five to the special lounge.

“Wait a little; I have something to do first. Go ahead and I’ll be there in two minutes.”

Su Bai suddenly stopped.

“What are you doing? You have to change clothes first; plus, I still have to tell you about the teams from the other four towns. The time is very tight, and if it’s nothing much, put it aside for now,” said Chen Bo.

“It’s okay. You guys can go in first. I’ll be there right away; something cropped up.” He insisted.

“Fine, hurry up then.” The adult could not stop him. He could control anyone else other than him, since his master, Gao An, was too big of a senior.

After the others left, Su Bai quickly walked to the front and stopped a middle-aged man. “Hello, Director Liu.”

“You’re… the champion of the recent Cannes Trainee Pet Tamer Survival Challenge, aren’t you? What’s the matter?” Liu Changchun, Green Fruit Plum Research Institute’s director, turned around and recognized him.

The youth smiled at the adult. “Director Liu, you have such a good memory. I’ve had my pet eat your green plum energy medicinal cake before; it’s very good. My pet’s spiritual energy recovered very fast, and it’s similar to other energy medicinal cakes in the market. It’s just that others don’t understand this yet, so the sales aren’t very high.”

“Are you trying to advertise it?” Realization dawned on the director as he figured out his purpose.

“Yes, I’m Carp Town’s team captain for this five towns’ spring festival competition. As long as you sponsor us, I promise that everyone will have a deep impression of the green plum energy medicinal cakes after the competition.” Su Bai patted his chest and promised. Since the town did not want to fork out money, he could only think of other ways to earn more.

He had no choice. Although the cub and the Little Tyrant were eating well now, they were all low-grade medicinal cakes. He needed a lot of money to let them eat the top-grade medicinal cakes.

“Why should I believe you?” Liu Changchun laughed.

“I’m the youngest trainer in Cannes, and I’ve won the championship before. I’m obviously strong; just look at my two pets. You have to believe me.”

He handed him his trainer certificate.

The director looked at it in surprise. “You obtained full marks in the experiment portion and the newest disciple of Elder Gao?”

He lifted his head and looked at the youth in shock. He had wondered why Gao An was so optimistic about Su Bai back then, and it turned out that this boy was that old man’s latest disciple.

“I can’t tell you that.” Su Bai shook his head.

Liu Changchun: “…”

Could he not act more realistically?

He lowered his head and looked at the pets next to the teen. Although he could not identify their specific species, how could he not recognize the naïve guy chewing on a volcanic rock?

Although its appearance was different, it was definitely a Purgatory Tyrant baby.

Upon seeing this, Su Bai’s identity was almost confirmed to him. This teen was not an ordinary person.

“Although I’m already sponsoring this competition, I think you have a bright future ahead of you. Plus, I think that you have the potential to win the championship. It’s not impossible to support your team. How much advertising fee are you intending to charge?” asked Liu Changchun with a smile. He took out his cell phone and wrote down the boy’s number.

Su Bai thought about it and replied, “There are five of us, so one million yuan each. I promise that I’ll leave a deep impression of the green plum energy medicinal cakes on the audience.”

Liu Changchun’s lips twitched inevitably at that. “Kid, you’re really demanding an exorbitant amount. I didn’t even fork out five million yuan for the competition. One million, no more.”

“One million is too little. How about this: Let’s sign a contract. As long as we obtain the championship and leave a deep impression of the green plum energy medicinal cakes, we’ll receive four million yuan of sponsorship, okay? Otherwise, I’ll go back and beg my master or find other seniors at the Trainer Association.”

Su Bai negotiated. These sellers of energy medicinal cakes were extremely rich and had no shortage of money. This kind of small company could sell millions of energy medicinal cakes a day, since the item was a basic necessity that every Pet Tamer needed to buy.

“Three million. I’ll give you face and be friends with you,” said the director.

“3,600,000 yuan. It’s easier for us to divide it.”

“No, three million.”

“Fine, then. Let’s sign a contract. I have to go back soon; I still have to compete,” he said helplessly.

“Let’s sign it outside; I have all the contracts with me.” Liu Changchun tapped his briefcase and laughed.

The two hit it off and went out to sign the contract with their fingerprints.

“Guys, let’s go. As long as you two win the competition today, we won’t have to worry about your food for one or two months,” said Su Bai in high spirits. The feeling of receiving money was too great.

He was even thinking if he should start livestreaming his plays. It was so cool to receive an advertisement fee, but after thinking about it, he gave up. He just did not have that ability.

“Howl! φ( ̄∇ ̄o)”

“Roar! (✪ω✪)”

The two pets excitedly hugged his legs, rubbing against him affectionately. It was so good to have such a Pet Tamer; they loved him so much!

Their affection for him had increased~

…

Immediately after Su Bai entered the lounge—

“Where did you go? Why did you take so long to come back?” asked Chen Bo. The boy had taken a full twenty minutes instead of a minute.

“Sorry, I was delayed.” Su Bai apologized.

“Okay, then. This is your outfit; just put it on when you’re in the court.” The man tossed over a coat with two big carps and the word ‘carp’ written in red.

“As for the other team’s information, just look at it yourself. These are all data from other town teams participating in the trials and can only be used as reference.

“I’ll go to the other side in front to meet the leaders and will be back soon. Look for the time yourself,” said Chen Bo.

“Erm, I would like to ask: Can we accept an advertisement and sponsorship?” He raised his hand and asked.

The man glanced at him. “As long as you win the championship, the town won’t care about other things.”

He did not want to speak further about this. As long as they won the championship, they could do anything.

“Okay.” Su Bai nodded.

He looked at the information once the man left. The data showed that, out of the four towns, Big River Town and Maple Leaf Town had warlord pets, which had appeared during the selection round. Hexi Town and White Stone Town did not have any warlord pets.

However, this information on the four towns’ battle strength had no definite gauge, since this had been collected half a month ago. Anything could have happened within the past half a month. With money, their pets could have evolved to become warlords.

It was better to wait awhile and examine the pet’s pupil colors in the arena. Although it was not reliable, it was still better than this information at hand.

Su Bai looked away, put on the uniform, and looked at his teammates. “Brothers and sister, I have a chance to make money here; do you want it?”

With money on the line, they did not care about their hatred for him anymore. Likewise, even though the boy had to work with people he disliked, he still managed to keep his cool.

Chen Rouxue glared at him. It turned out that he had gone out to pick up an advertisement contract; she had been anxious for nothing.

“You received an advertisement deal? How much money can we get each?” Wang Er laughed.

“200,000 yuan. I was only able to get this price after a lot of effort. The sponsor is already funding this competition and didn’t want another advertisement deal. Plus, he doesn’t have confidence in our strength.

“He only agreed after my incessant pestering and cajoling and obtained such a big benefit for everyone. The town is too stingy, so it’s up to us to increase our earnings in order to finance our pets’ training.” He spoke earnestly.

“Who knows if you took a bigger share for yourself? Maybe our share doesn’t count as much compared to yours.” Shi Lei barked.

He glanced at the boy. “Then I don’t need you. The four of us can have an extra 50,000 yuan each.”

“I have no objection.” Chen Rouxue smiled.

“I don’t either.” Wang Er sneered.

“No, wait. I was wrong; I apologize.” Before Guo Dong could express his opinion, Shi Lei quickly apologized.

“Okay, let’s forget it this time.” Su Bai easily forgave him. If not for the contract, he really did not want to give this rascal money.

“It’s settled. Everyone will accept this advertisement deal. We’ll have to satisfy the clients during this competition…”

He briefly explained how they should go about this advertising gig.

The others grinned after hearing his plan and readily agreed for the sake of money.

“Good. All’s settled. Someone will send you guys something later; everything’s free, so just take whatever you want.”

After a while, people sent two boxes of green plum energy medicinal cakes as well as some props.

“Come on. Everyone, wear this sports headband and this cloak. Put it on your pets, too. When we’re in the field later, do as I say.” Su Bai distributed the stuff to Guo Dong and the others.

He put on a black headband for himself and then turned to put a white one on his girlfriend. “So beautiful.”

Chen Rouxue did not speak and just blinked at him flirtatiously.

The others walked to the side angrily. Out of sight, out of mind.

Soon, Chen Bo returned and saw them wearing headbands. He immediately knew that he had guessed right. This chap had picked up an advertisement deal outside.

“Let’s go. The competition will start soon. We have to go out,” he said blankly.

“Okay.”

Nodding, the team got up and followed him to the arena.

They soon arrived at the arena, which resembled an upside-down roundtable. It was a regular competition with normal rules, but the bottom of the field was covered with a transparent energy shield.

Their rest area was on the platform below the arena.

The stands were already packed with people, and with the entrance of the five teams, the atmosphere grew heated.

At the rest area, Su Bai put a flag on the table, which showed the green plum energy medicinal cakes.

Yang Zhou and his other classmates, who were sitting not far behind their rest area, became speechless at the sight of their outfits. Out of the five teams, only their team was advertising something.

“It’s over, Su Bai and the others are in for a hard time. Look at Big River Town, they have two pets at the warlord level.” Yang Zhou looked at the team in the distance worriedly.

Their Withered Bone Mantis was already at the warlord level, and another pet had obviously reached the same level, too.

“It’s more than that; the Maple Leaf Town has two warlord pets. Even Hexi Town and White Stone Town each have a warlord pet. Our town only has one warlord pet from Chen Rouxue, so it’s a little difficult to fight against them, but I still believe in them.” Jiang Yang looked around and said.

It was as if everyone agreed to promote their pet levels and pull Carp Town down together.

“Hexi Town and White Stone Town probably invited last year’s college entrance examination candidates, but it’s still within the game’s requirements.” Chen Tingting analyzed.

The audience was nonchalant about this, though. It was even more exciting to see warlord pets fight. On the contrary, they cheered more enthusiastically upon seeing these warlords.

Soon, everyone was ready on stage. The host of the contest, a long-legged lady in a dress, came onstage and said, “Good morning, ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to the five towns’ spring festival competition… I hereby announce the official start of the competition!

“We’ll now proceed to the first round of the competition, the drawing of lots. Of the five teams, one will advance directly to the next round. Four teams must compete in the elimination round, and only those who win can move forward. Now, I’d like to invite the captain of the five teams to come onstage and draw lots.”
