Starting With Contract Pets Chapter 67

Chapter 67: Love Is the Ladder of Progress – Lu Xun

It was almost 6 p.m. by the time Su Bai reached home, mainly because he had stopped by to buy grilled fish, fifteen skewers of grilled glutton, grilled beef, and grilled lamb.

“Howl! (╯▽╰)” It smells so good~

On the way home, the cub could not stop staring at the five jin of grilled meat that it’s owner was carrying.

“Big bro, you’re back. It smells so good; I feel so hungry.”

Knowing that his older brother would be bringing barbecued meat home, Su Yue specially waited for him in the living room. Thus, when his brother arrived, he hurriedly went forward to help him take the things, putting them onto the coffee table that he had already cleaned up.

“Are dad and mom back?” asked Su Bai.

“They only got home, too. Mom has just finished bathing and is currently changing clothes, while dad is still in the shower.”

Su Yue could not bear his hunger and stuffed a piece of grilled meat into his mouth.

“It smells so good. How much did everything cost?” Mother Su wiped her wet hair with a towel as she came downstairs.

“Not very expensive, about 400 yuan.” Su Bai looked up.

Nodding, his mother sat on the sofa and picked up a piece of fish skin to eat. “Oh, it’s not bad. Very fragrant.”

Putting down her chopsticks, she turned to him strangely. “Son, let me ask you something.”

“What is it? Please don’t tell me that you want to ask if the girl fishing with me this afternoon is my girlfriend?

“Don’t misunderstand it. That girl’s my class monitor. She just came along to see the scenery out of boredom and told me about a town contest in passing.”

He glanced at his mother and immediately guessed what she was thinking.

“I don’t mean anything else, nor do I mean to stop you. I just wanna tell you that it’s best to be in a relationship in college. Your studies are still the most important in high school.

“Even if you’re in a relationship, it shouldn’t affect your studies. You should make progress together and enter a good university so that you can have a good future.”

His mother laughed and explained. “Still, that girl is rather cute. I can keep a good relationship with her first; we’ll wait till college before advancing further.”

Su Bai: “…”

Su Yue was snickering at the corner.

“What are you guys talking about?” Father Su wiped his hair as he came downstairs, too.

“Nothing much. Come eat quickly.” Mother Su waved her hand.

“Howl! Ψ( ̄∀ ̄)Ψ”

Su Bai picked out a piece without cumin and spicy seeds and fed it to the cub. It opened its mouth widely and finished the piece in one bite, then it looked at him with pitiful eyes.

He ate a piece of fish skin and then handed another to the cub.

With Purple Jade around, they finished all five catties of carps.

After dinner, his father threw a bag down in front. “I killed many of the low-level monsters hiding in the forest at the excavation site. These are their crystal nuclei; you can sell these crystal nuclei for money or use them.”

“So many?” Su Bai opened the bag and looked inside in surprise. Although these were all crystal nuclei of low-level servant monsters, there were more than twenty of them.

Having originally thought that there were no more monsters near the Construct Reservoir, he truly did not expect to see quite a few.

The crystal nuclei were all wood attributes, which made sense because they could be hidden easily.

“Some ran away, and some areas haven’t been developed yet, so I only gathered these few,” replied his father.

“Thank you, dad.” He hurriedly thanked his father. With these crystal nuclei, he could have enough money to purchase the undead crystal nuclei.

“I won’t bother you; you can just work hard yourself. Don’t let down your good prospects.”

Father Su smiled, patted his son on the shoulder, and then winked at him. “Don’t listen to your mom and just go after the girl you like. How can you make progress if you don’t have a good relationship? Love is one of the ladders of progress.

“As long as you don’t disregard your studies, I’ll support you if you lack money, but you’re still young, so don’t go all out; it’s not good for either of you.”

Su Bai: “…”

“Haha! I’ll stop here. I’m going to bed; you and your brother should rest early, too.” His father patted him earnestly, then smiled, and put his hands behind his back.

“Hahaha…” After their parents left, Su Yue could not help leaning forward and bursting into laughter. The cub jumped up and patted him on the shoulder in an exaggerated manner, widening its big purple eyes.

Ah Bai, don’t worry; I’ll seal the deal for you.

“Little brother, are you asking for it? Do you believe that I’ll beat you up!” Su Bai squeezed his fists. He could not bear to teach the cub a lesson, but he could do it to his younger brother.

“Hahaha… I’m not laughing at you.” Su Yue immediately smothered his laughter, and then he spoke solemnly. “Big brother, our parents probably saw you with a girl today. You’re really too careless. Every time I ask a female classmate out to play, I’ll make sure to go far away…

“Do you know why our dad warned you? He had a lot of girlfriends back then, and I even saw a bunch of love letters he had received hidden with his money. Unfortunately, they were all taken away by mom before I could show them to you. I even remember our dad eating instant noodles the next day.”

“Do you think I’m like you, deceiving girls at such a young age? I’m the purest in this family.”

Su Bai side-eyed his younger brother, then grabbed the cub’s neck, and returned to his room.

After he left, Su Yue patted his chest in fear. Thank goodness he had been smart enough to change the subject quickly.

It was too difficult on him in this family.

…

“Buddy, let go; it hurts…”

“Howl! o( ̄ヘ ̄o#)”

It bit Su Bai’s hand and glared at him, unwilling to loosen its grip. Hmph, who asked him to grab its precious neck?

Still, it had its limit and only bit the boy so that he would hurt a little.

“I was wrong! ”

“Hmph! s(・`ヘ ́・;)ゞ”

He took out a piece of the cub’s favorite vanilla energy medicinal cake, wanting it to relax its grip.

“Hmph! ( ̄へ ̄)”

The cub ignored him, wanting to bite bad Ah Bai.

“Oh, my God, buddy! What’s that outside the window?” He suddenly pointed outside the window and shouted.

“Howl?”

The cub turned its head, but it did not see anything. By the time it turned around, Su Bai had already buried himself tightly in his bed.

“Howl! (▼皿▼#)”

The cub mobilized its spiritual power and lifted the quilt directly, then it summoned soft vine whips to bind his legs.

“Ah, buddy, I was wrong! I was wrong…” Su Bai immediately apologized to it.

Ignoring his apology, the cub slowly tied his arms with a kind smile on its face. It opened its mouth and bit his wrist.

“Ah, it hurts to death!”

Su Bai fell on the bed and feigned death.

Purple Jade: “???”

It had not bitten him yet. Was he dead?

The cub poked Su Bai.

He did not move.

It poked him again.

He still was not moving.

It kept its vines and poked him again.

He still was not moving.

Ah Bai, what’s wrong? He’s obviously still breathing.

At this moment—

Su Bai suddenly resurrected and hugged the cub. “Ah, my lovely buddy, don’t bite me. If you bite my hand, no one can make energy medicinal cakes for you.

“Plus, I have a test on Monday, and it’ll affect our results. I’ll never touch the back of your neck again and will give you ten energy medicinal cakes as compensation, okay?”

The cub turned to its owner and spread out two paws to indicate ten times that.

“Okay, ten times. I’ll do it once I’m rich.” the boy did not refuse.

“Howl! ( ̄^ ̄)”

The cub yelped and went to play with its tablet.

Su Bai sighed, thinking that he was still better at playing tricks.

As for the medicinal cakes, of course he would make them for the cub. However, he had no money or materials and must rely on his pet to hunt monsters or participate in competitions to earn money.

In order to better hunt monsters and win the competitions, he naturally had to hone the cub’s skills and train it.

Thus, it was another reason to urge Purple Jade to train.

Ah, he was such a genius.
