Chapter 720: Was for Him

Naturally, the two brothers did not understand what she meant.

Shen Li did not want to let such a small matter affect their mood, so she quickly changed the topic.

“After watching, do you two want to get on your horses and try it out now?”

“Sure!”

Gu Siqi replied happily.

“Cousin, why don’t we have a competition?”

Shen Li nodded with a smile.

“Sure.”

…

The two brothers were full of energy as they raced with Shen Li. Shen Li controlled her speed. One moment she would be in the front, the next she would be in the back. In the end, she won by the distance of one horse’s length.

After the race, the two brothers were completely convinced.

However, in this match, winning or losing was not the most important thing.

After the match was over, Shen Li dismounted from her horse and went up to the two boys. She gave them some important points that they should pay attention to and helped them adjust their posture.

In fact, most of her attention had been on them as she had run that lap with them earlier.

As the young masters of the Gu family, Gu Siqi and Gu Sicheng had received an elite education since they were young. The equestrian coach they hired was naturally excellent as well.

However, this also depended on one’s talent.

The things that Shen Li had observed were more detailed and easier to understand.

The whole morning passed just like that.

At noon, Shen Li brought the two brothers back to the Gu family home and accompanied Old Master Gu and Old Madam Gu to have lunch together.

…

The news of the return of the young miss of the Gu family had already spread throughout the whole of Hong Kong City.

The people from the various aristocratic families, especially in the upper circles, were speculating about the identity of this young miss.

However, this young miss seemed to be exceptionally low-key, spending most of her time in the Gu family’s old residence.

Moreover, the Gu family was very protective of her, allowing the outside world to make all sorts of conjectures and even probe for information. However, not a single bit of that young miss’s personal information was revealed.

As a result, everyone gradually understood. Since the Gu family had set the banquet for the 8th, that meant that it would only be the 8th that anything would be revealed.

Before this date, if they did not want to divulge anything, then no one could do anything about it.

However, the more this was the case, the more curious everyone became about this young lady.

During these few days, Shen Li would occasionally go to the Dutian Racecourse. The rest of the time, she stayed at home, reading calligraphy and painting, and having tea with Old Madam Gu.

Compared to the impatient curiosity of the outside world, even though she was the central figure of everyone’s topic of conversation, she became the most leisurely person.

…

In the blink of an eye, the 5th had arrived.

In the morning, Shen Li accompanied Old Master Gu and Old Madam Gu to have breakfast. Then, she went back to her room to change her clothes and carried her backpack out.

Seeing her like this, Old Master Gu asked casually, “Is Ah Li going out?”

Shen Li nodded, and her gaze swept past the two elderly people.

“Dad is coming to Hong Kong City for a meeting today.”

The surroundings were silent for a moment.

Old Master Gu paused, and his tone was calm.

“Are you going to pick him up?”

Shen Li shook her head.

“His schedule for these two days will be very full, and everything will be managed by Mill Laboratory. I’m going over because I want to visit their laboratory… as my dad’s assistant.”

The meeting this time was of a very high standard, and ordinary people were not qualified to participate at all.

Originally, Yan Qiu was supposed to come with him this time, but his experiment at Xijing University had reached a more important stage, so it was inconvenient for him to go with him.

This opportunity had fallen upon Shen Li.

Old Master Gu replied with a “hmm”, but did not say anything else.

Old Madam Gu, on the other hand, smiled.

“It’s a rare opportunity. If Ah Li likes it, then you should just go. Would you like someone to send you there?”

Shen Li said, “Thank you, Grandma, but there’s no need to go through so much trouble. I’ll just drive there myself.”

Gu Siyang had kept asking her to choose a car until she could not bear it any longer. In the end, she had finally chosen a black sedan that was not that ostentatious compared to his fleet of flashy sports cars which she could temporarily use for transportation.

Old Madam Gu nodded.

“Okay.”

“Then, Grandpa and Grandma, I’ll take my leave first.”

As she spoke, she moved to head out.

“Ah Li.”

Old Madam Gu suddenly called out.

Shen Li turned around and saw Old Madam Gu smiling gently.

“In two days’ time when he’s done with his work, ask Zhijin to come over for a meal when he’s free.”

Shen Li’s heart moved slightly, and she subconsciously looked at Old Master Gu.

Old Master Gu frowned slightly. He was about to say something when he saw Shen Li out of the corner of his eye.

He paused, and in the end, he swallowed the words in his throat.

This was his tacit approval.

Shen Li heaved a sigh of relief, and the corners of her lips curled up into a smile.

“Okay.”

…

Mill Laboratory.

A white car slowly drove over and stopped in front of the main entrance.

A tall and upright figure got out of the car.

A staff member waiting at the door immediately came forward.

“Hello, Professor Shen. I’m Lu Yi, a researcher at Mill Lab. On behalf of Mill Lab, I’d like to welcome you here.”

Shen Zhijin nodded and shook hands with him.

“Hello.”

Lu Yi had a smile on his face.

“You’ve finally come. It’s really not been easy to get you to come here!”

Shen Zhijin rarely came to Hong Kong City, so they had not expected him to come personally this time.

When they learned that he had promised to attend the meeting, everyone in the laboratory had become very excited.

As he spoke, he looked behind Shen Zhijin.

“Where’s your assistant? Isn’t she with you?”

Shen Zhijin looked at the time.

“She should be here soon.”

Lu Yi understood. “Then let me accompany you in first–”

Shen Zhijin shook his head.

“There’s no need. I’ll wait for her here.”

Lu Yi was stunned, almost thinking that he had misheard.

“You… you’re going to wait here personally?”

He had only heard of assistants waiting for their bosses. When had there ever been a boss who waited for their assistant?

Moreover, who did not know that Shen Zhijin paid great attention to punctuality? Who was this who dared to make him wait?

Who was this assistant of his that was… so important?

Shen Zhijin met his shocked gaze, but he smiled.

“Yes. It’s her first time here, so she’s not familiar with the place. It’s better for me to take her with me.”
