“Wait for me there! I’m going back now!”

She did not know how to react to her best friend’s declaration.

“Ah? My wedding has already been postponed.”

Tang Xiaoyu sputtered in anger at her words.

“Who gives a d*mn about your wedding now?! Sh*t! Pei Shishi’s family is too much!”

Pei Ge could tell the other’s expression from her voice alone.

Her best friend must be rolling her eyes. If she were with her now, she would likely get a beating.

She subconsciously swallowed before she comforted her best friend. “Er… it’s fine. Don’t get upset. I’ll deal with them, so you don’t have to come back.”

Alas, her words had no effect.

Immediately after she said that, her best friend’s tone of voice got shriller and sharper.

“What do you mean by ‘don’t need to come back’?! Who can you deal with you like that?”

Without thinking, Tang Xiaoyu doubted the woman on the other end.

She did not trust the other to be capable of handling things properly. Thus, she said pompously, “Just you wait! I’m going back to support you! I’m the best at ripping people to shreds!”

“…” Pei Ge felt her mouth twitch at the corner when she heard that. “Please, missy, this isn’t a fight.”

This is clearly revenge! What fight?! What kind of fighting is this?!

The negative emotions in her heart turned into amusement because of her best friend.

“I don’t care! In any case, you’re mine! Since you’ve been bullied so badly, how can I enjoy myself overseas?! I’m getting a plane ticket now!”

Her best friend then hung up the phone without giving her time to react.

Toot, toot, toot…

Listening to the dial tone coming from the phone, Pei Ge’s lips twitched again as she stared at her phone speechlessly.

“This Xiaoyu…”

Although her expression was that of speechlessness, she felt warm and fuzzy inside. A hint of a smile even appeared on her face.

…

New York City, America.

“Zhengrong, I’m going to take a trip back home.”

Tang Xiaoyu quickly packed up her luggage and dragged it to her boyfriend’s study.

It was barely dawn in New York, but the man, who was used to getting up early, could be seen wide awake. At six in the morning, he began his day in the study.

Since she lived with him, this woman, who used to laze in bed until noon, took the habit of waking up early daily as well.

She would wake up early to make breakfast for him.

In fact, she intended to prepare breakfast for him, but after her phone conversation with Pei Ge, her plans changed.

“…Mhm.”

Her words made the man reading in the study pause a little.

“I’ve prepared the present—”

He was cut off by her.

“I’m not going back for Ge Ge’s wedding. Her wedding has been postponed.”

He frowned at this and put down his book to look straight at the woman.

“Why was her wedding postponed?”

Gu Zhengrong did not ask her why she was taking a trip home despite the wedding being postponed; instead, he asked her why the wedding was postponed.

Even though the answer to both questions was the same, the way they were phrased revealed the focus and attention of the questioner!

However, this ever-sensitive woman did not have time to bother with it due to her shock from what her best friend had just told her.

“Sigh! Don’t mention it! You have no idea how horrible and terrible those relatives of hers are!”

Since the man asked, she decided to complain to him about it.

“It’s fine that her cousin stole Ge Ge’s boyfriend since that man is a piece of trash, but! No one expected her second uncle to be responsible for her dad’s death! Now, her second auntie ran over her mom! The wedding was postponed because her mom got hurt…”

The man knitted his brows when he heard that and his expression tightened into an ugly grimace.

“That relatives of hers are too much so I’m going over there to help out Ge Ge! She’s all alone; I’m really worried…”

As she continued rambling, she failed to catch the fleeting expression on the man’s face.

She just got increasingly angry as she spoke further.

“What do you intend to do once you get back?” Seeing that the woman intended to continue talking, Gu Zhengrong frowned. “How do you intend to help her once you get back?”

“I…”

The upset woman who had been talking nonstop was dumbfounded from his question.

Right. How did she plan to help her best friend once she got back?

“Er… I was too angry after I heard it. I was so focused on going over there to support her that I really haven’t thought about that…”

She scratched her head out of embarrassment before blinking innocently at him.

Hearing that, the man sighed hopelessly.

“First of all, you need a good lawyer. Second, you need evidence that ties them to the crime.”

“Er… Her fiancé is from the Ji family. They can definitely get a good lawyer. As for incriminating evidence…”

As she spoke, she frowned and muttered with uncertainty, “I didn’t really ask Ge Ge over the details of it. I just heard from her that her second auntie had run over her mom to destroy the evidence.”

His frown deepened upon hearing that.

“I’ll come with you.”

His words made the woman, who had been eager to return and seek justice for her best friend’s family in her frustration, freeze.

“A-Ah? What did you just say? Come with me? You’re coming with me?!”
