Chen Zhengchu nodded upon hearing her request.

Thereafter, he explained to Pei Ge all those medical terms in the simplest way possible.

He was so focused on his explanation as she raptly listened.

Time ticked by. Seeing that it was getting dark, the man started to think of leaving the woman be for her to get a much-needed rest.

However, before he could speak, her phone rang.

“Let me take this call.”

She smiled apologetically at him and took out her phone.

Originally, she thought that the call was from Ji Ziming, but once she fished the phone out, she saw that the number calling her was unknown.

“Hello. Who is this?” She answered the call lightly.

Unexpectedly, this call was from the police.

“Is this Zhang Manhua’s daughter, Pei Ge?”

Hearing a man’s unfamiliar voice, she nodded in confusion.

“Yes, this is her daughter. May I know who I am speaking?”

“Miss, I’m the police officer in charge of your mother’s case. You can call me Officer Wu.”

This stunned her.

A brief moment later, she got what the caller meant.

“H-Hello, officer! Are you calling because you already caught the driver who hit my mother?” she inquired anxiously.

Besides worrying about her mother’s condition, she was most concerned about who had run down her mother and made her be in such a state now!

The person nearly killed her mother!

“We are still investigating the incident involving your mother, but from what we saw on the CCTV in the area, your mother getting hit by a car was no accident but an attempted murder.”

She was stunned by the police officer’s words.

Such a conclusion reminded her of her father.

However, at that time, her father’s incident was regarded as an accident.

“From the security footage, the culprit seems to know your mother; her target was clear-cut, too, and that’s to kill your mother.”

The police officer calmly explained this to her in his rough voice.

“The lighting in your neighborhood wasn’t too bright at that time, so we didn’t figure it out right away, but judging from the person’s stature, we can more or less surmise that it’s a middle-aged woman in her forties or fifties.”

Middle-aged woman in her forties or fifties?

For some reason, she got this feeling that the culprit might be someone she knew.

“Oddly enough, though, was the actions of that person who hit your mother with a car.”

“Hm?”

She found the police’s remark to be rather incredulous.

Nonetheless, not long after listening to the police officer’s words, she guessed the identity of her mother’s attacker!

“After hitting your mother with a car, instead of fleeing, she got out of it and squatted in front of your mother.”

“What?!” Squatted?!

“What’s confusing is that the person searched your mother’s body and ended up taking the watch on your mother’s wrist.”

“Watch?!”

Hearing that, she knew at once the person’s identity!

Middle-aged woman in her forties or fifties hit her mother with a car but did not flee and, instead, took a watch from her!

“Miss, have you thought of something related to your mother’s case?” The police officer noted her odd reaction and anxiously asked this.

She recovered from her trance at the police officer’s question.

With an ugly expression, she gripped her phone tightly as she struggled to speak. “Officer, I might know my mother’s attacker.”

The police officer became excited at her reply.

“Oh? Who is it? If you have clues, the investigation may become simpler!”

“Yes, it’s Liu Yan, my second auntie.”

She struggled to say the name.

Now, she knew why, when she came out of her cousin’s room, she did not see her second aunt! She did not expect that the woman would actually drive off and knock down her mother!

D*mn it! It’s all my fault! I shouldn’t have said that…

Her aunt had probably heard her conversation with Pei Shishi regarding the evidence being in her mother’s hand… and that was why she drove that car to look for her mother, which resulted in her mother’s present state…

“Your second auntie? Does your mother and your second auntie have any conflict?” asked the police officer askance. What hatred could the sisters-in-law have that one would run down the other? It seemed as if one was trying to kill the other.

“It’s not really a conflict.”

The matter between their families could no longer be deemed as a conflict but a blood feud that would never be resolved!

Right now, she really regretted saying those words!

Why did she say that the evidence was with her mother?! She felt extremely remorseful in this instant.

“Miss? Miss, are you okay?”

“Yes, I’m fine.”

“We understand your situation and will now head over to your second auntie’s house to learn more. Please keep in touch with us at all times. When we are done with the investigation, we’ll give you another call.”

“Alright. Thank you, officer.” She thanked the police officer before hanging up.

Instantly, there was a despondent atmosphere in the ward.

Chen Zhengchu, at her side, could more or less guess what had happened from her words even though he did not hear what the person’s words on the other end.

He got that her mother was confined in the hospital due to her second aunt.

Her mother was in such a dire situation because of her relative…

He did not dare to imagine the pain that she was currently experiencing!

“Pei Ge… are you okay?”
