“I’m pregnant?” Lin Meirong woke up sometime later and was surprised to see Mu Jianyu sitting beside the bed.

He nodded in response and stared at her dazed expression. The news about her pregnancy not only shocked him but also Lin Meirong. She covered her mouth in disbelief. This wasn’t part of her plan! She had barely managed to avoid Mu Jianyu’s proposal, she can’t be pregnant now!

The fear that ran through her entirety wasn’t known to Mu Jianyu as he leaned down and held Lin Meirong in his arms. He could feel her trembling in his arms and assumed that she was afraid.

Lin Meirong had once told him that she was an orphan and she had no living relatives to look after her. This was why he found it endearing that she was working hard to support herself. It must have been hard for her to grow up alone in the countryside.

“Don’t worry. I’ll be here. I won’t let you deal with this alone.” He seated himself next to Lin Meirong and assured her.

Mu Jianyu was filled with joy and gratitude for the woman who made his dream come true. He’d always wanted to become a father. He wanted a family that he could call his own.

He would prove to everyone that he wasn’t like his father who abandoned him at a young age. His child with Lin Meirong would know and grow up with a father but he was anxious about how Li Xiuying and the Li family would react to this.

He placed a hand on her still flat stomach and pushed away the uneasiness from his mind. He wouldn’t let the Li family ruin this precious moment.

On the contrary, Lin Meirong didn’t want this child. Her career hadn’t reached its peak yet but she ended up being pregnant. She’d been very careful not to get pregnant since her affair started with Mu Jianyu. So how come she was suddenly carrying a baby?

“How… how far along?” She stammered as she asked, trying to figure out when she conceived the child.

Mu Jianyu frowned and rubbed her back as he tried to soothe her. According to the result, it was estimated that she was ten weeks along with her pregnancy.

“About ten weeks.” He answered truthfully. “Why? Is there something bothering you?”

At that moment, Lin Meirong’s eyes welled up with tears as she curled herself on the bed, trying to hide the horror on her face from her lover.

Ten weeks? Ten weeks…

She’d always been careful when she engaged intimately with Mu Jianyu. It was impossible for her to get pregnant when she’d been using the morning after pill whenever Mu Jianyu forgot to use protection.

The only instance that she had sex without protection was when Director Yao forced himself on her the day before Mu Jianyu came back from his two weeks business trip overseas. Mu Jianyu was bewildered by her actions but didn’t question her. He lifted her chin and saw her teary eyes which moved his heart. She looked so weak and fragile in his arms. Was she really afraid that he wouldn’t take responsibility for their child?

“What’s wrong? Why are you crying?” He pulled out some tissues on the bedside table and wiped her tears dry.

Lin Meirong shook her head. She would never tell him about the real father of her child or he might kill her. No one should know the truth, even that wretched man Director Yao who only made her life hell lately.

“I’m just worried about your wife…” she mumbled but was loud enough for him to hear.

The frown on Mu Jianyu’s face deepened when Lin Meirong mentioned his wife.

“Li Xiuying would have no choice but to sign the divorce papers soon.” He told her.

“But that doesn’t mean she couldn’t do anything to spite me,” she sobbed pitifully.

“What do you mean?”

Lin Meirong then took this opportunity to explain to him how the Li Corporation injected funds on the film she was working on with Lan Jinyao and how Li Xiuying made a surprise inspection on their set today. She also exaggerated how Lan Jinyao tried to harm her which led to her being hospitalized.

Mu Jianyu’s face darkened. He would never believe that his perfect and angelic wife would play dirty like that. It wasn’t like Li Xiuying to do what Lin Meirong was claiming she’d done.

The Li Corporation must have taken the initiative to invest because Zheng Yue was part of the cast. It wasn’t a secret to everyone that Li Yuren pampered his wife rotten and would do anything to please her.

He figured Li Xiuying might have visited the set for Zheng Yue, he knew how close she was to her aunt. It was impossible that she was aware of his affair with Lin Meirong. If she knew about his affair, why would she keep her silence and not confront him?

Knowing Li Xiuying’s pristine reputation, she wouldn’t do anything bad to tarnish her name. Making a scene to humiliate Lin Meirong wasn’t something Li Xiuying was capable of. It was below her to play dirty.
