“What about you?” Luosang asked.

“Me?”

Nian Junting thought for a moment and said, “I don’t care what he does. He’s a scientist, so what? If he’s not a good person, I’ll still say no. What’s important is if he can be nice to Nian Xi. I think he’s better than before. He wouldn’t even look at me nor talk to me before. That was annoying.”

As he finished, he found Luosang looking at him smilingly.

“Silly.” Nian Junting pinched her nose and said, “I’m not saying that we’re really going to sleep.”

The Audi drove into town. Once again, Jiang Yuning, as a man, felt it was inappropriate to always make the girl drive him home. Besides, Nian Xi had been busy all day. She was already tired, and she needed to drive him home. He didn’t want that.

“Xi, how about you don’t drive me home?” Jiang Yuning hesitated briefly, then said, “Just go straight home. I’ll clean your apartment, then ask Uncle Han to send a car to pick me up.”

Would Jiang Yuning be that person for her? She remembered hearing people say that he was working on a very mysterious project. Nian Qingyun didn’t want her to be with Jiang Yuning because he didn’t want her daughter to get involved in something like that.

“Yujing, what is the project that you’re working on?” she said to him. “I heard that you’ve been working on a mysterious project. Is that true?”

“N-no… I’m not.” Jiang Yujing’s expression changed.

Nian Xi didn’t say anything else but looked straight ahead.

After a long while, Jiang Yuning stuttered saying, “Xi, it’s not that I don’t want to tell you. Some projects are secret, especially now. Now is an era of high-tech development. The competition in the science world is very strong. I’m not on that project anymore. I’m only doing some small projects that will help people with their lives.”

“I get it. I’m not mad at you. I am a policewoman, so I can understand,” said Nian Xi. “You are doing the right thing not telling me.”

“I understand.” She stopped the car before a red light and continued by saying, “Because we are the same. Our jobs require us to contribute to our country.” She looked at him in the eyes.

Her black eyes glowed in the darkness, like the eyes of a cat. Jiang Yuning was nearly lost in those eyes. A short while later, he smiled shyly and said, “So, we’re such a good match.”
