She looked down at Ye Xingfei. “Accept the dress.”

Ye Xingfei nodded. In her memory, that dress wasn’t as bad as her mother put it. She said to Xia Ling, “Sister, please bring the dress over for me when you have the time.”

Xia Ling nodded in response.

Auntie Liu grew frustrated and prodded her daughter’s forehead with a finger. “Useless!” She glared at Xia Ling. “Ye Xingling, you’re such a big superstar now, staying in that luxurious mansion and driving such a good car. How can you just watch us struggle in misery? You’re really too stingy!”

Xia Ling asked, “Then, what do you want me to do?”

Auntie Liu puffed up her chest and said, “My daughter might be easy to bully, but not me! You’re not going to buy her the branded items? Then, you have to buy them for me! I want gold accessories as well! I’m your mother!”

“Zhaodi!” Father Ye shouted out in embarrassment.

Auntie Liu unleashed her anger at him. “What? What?! Just look at your good daughter here! Aiyo… why is my life so difficult? Why can’t I enjoy the riches that my children give to me?” She whined dramatically, fully acting the part of a disappointed mother, merely one step away from using eye-drops to fake some tears.

Xia Ling was unmoved by this scene, having been used to all kinds of things in the two lives she’d lived. She extracted herself and made to walk out of the room. “Feifei, your mother is too agitated today. I’ll come by to see you another day.”

“Sister!” Feifei held onto her. “Don’t go.” She was always aware that her mother bullied her sister, but she didn’t expect that after all these years, even after sister had become a big superstar, her mother was still treating her with such a bad attitude. She turned and pleaded with her mother. “Mum, can you and dad go out for a little while? Can I have a private moment with my sister?”

“You ingrates… what do you have to say in private? Aiyo… even my own daughter is chasing me away… Aiyo… my life is so bitter! Bitter!” Auntie Liu’s wails became even louder.

Hearing Chu Chen’s name, Auntie Liu shuddered.

A sinister smile spread across Xia Ling’s face. “You seem to have forgotten who the real father of my son is.”

Auntie Liu was taken aback before recalling that while Shaohui was not Pei Ziheng’s son, his biological father’s background was also not to be messed with. Rumors had it that Li Lei was from the underworld!

Auntie Liu shuddered again and shut up, even though her face was full of reluctance.

“I’ll count to three. Both of you get out.” Xia Ling said. “Hurry now.”

She started to count. Father Ye and Auntie Liu looked at each other in shock, but Auntie Liu was ultimately dragged out of the room by Father Ye.

“Close the door.” Xia Ling commanded.

Father Ye hurriedly closed the door after himself.

Xia Ling turned to face Ye Xingfei and remarked. “Now it’s nice and peaceful.”

Ye Xingfei stared at Xia Ling as if she was a monster. She realized that she barely recognized this sister anymore. The shy and meek girl in her memories no longer existed, and in her place was an arrogant and wilful superstar, who seemed to think that anything she did was the way it should be.

“What’s wrong? Is there something on my face?” Xia Ling asked, seeing that Ye Xingfei’s expression was off.

Ye Xingfei snapped out of her reverie and hurriedly shook her head. She said, “I didn’t expect that after being in a coma for so many years, the dynamics in the family had changed so much. Sister, I heard from Dad that it was all because of you that I am able to stay in such a good hospital and receive top-notch medical care. Thank you so much.”

Xia Ling was taken aback. She hadn’t thought that Father Ye would tell Ye Xingfei about these… It looked like he still had a conscience. She smiled. “We’re sisters. Why are you being so courteous?”

Although she said this out loud, Xia Ling still felt weird speaking to Ye Xingfei in this way given that she wasn’t really her sister. She was at a loss of what else to say as she regarded the girl lying in the hospital bed. Ye Xingfei was already over 20, but only looked about 15 or 16 years old as the years of lying in the hospital had made her fragile and weak.
