The next day, just as her parents said, Leyan returned home to Li Meili and Zhang Jiren. Zhang Jiren waited for her to come home before going to work that morning, leaving his wife and stepdaughter with Elder Lan. 

Li Meili was starting to notice a difference in Zhang Jiren, but she couldn’t quite point out what it was. She shook her head and decided to focus on the matter on hand. Tang Moyu had called her back that night to inform her that Luo Qingqing had agreed to her request to model her dress. 

In a hurry, she called her assistant, Zhi Ruo to prepare the contract that she and Luo Qingqiing would sign today to make it official. As she waited for Luo Qingqing’s arrival, she stayed in the nursery room, feeding the child. 

“Didn’t you get enough sleep last night, darling?” Li Meili murmured when Leyan yawned for the umpteenth time that day. “I guess Mommy isn’t the only one who missed you last night.” 

Indeed, the night before didn’t go as she planned. After soaking in the tub and eating a pint of ice cream on her own, Li Meili realized that she kept ending up thinking about her daughter. It was only after the clock struck two in the morning that she forced herself to go to bed. 

However, before that, she decided to check on Zhang Jiren who hadn’t come to retire for the night. She checked the study and didn’t see him there as the stacks of paper over his desk were already tidied up indicating that he had left some time ago. 

Li Meili wondered where he was until she found the other guest room locked. 

‘I guess he wanted to sleep on his own, considering no one’s here to see us,’ she thought, before returning to the master bedroom to retire for the night. 

“Do you miss your Uncle Jiren too?” She asked Leyan, but the babe in her arms only smiled at the mention of her stepfather’s name. 

Ah, Li Meili suddenly felt guilty, thinking that she would have to separate the two eventually as she was going to divorce Zhang Jiren in a few months’ time. However, it couldn’t be helped as their marriage was just based on a contract. 

It didn’t take long and Luo Qingqing arrived before lunchtime, joining her for a meal. With Leyan finally asleep, Li Meili was assured that she wouldn’t wake up for milk for another two hours, giving her enough time to meet her guest. 

“I’m so sorry for calling you out so suddenly, Miss Luo, but I couldn’t think of anyone who can help me right now,” Li Meili said as Elder Lan brought their lunch and served it.

“No worries, Madam. Miss Tang has done a great deal for me, and my manager thinks it would be a good idea getting another endors.e.m.e.nt from your company. Do you need to take my measurements?” Luo Qingqing asked. This time, there was a hint of elegance in the way she talked and moved, far from the shy woman Tang Moyu had met a year ago. 

“Ah, about that. Don’t worry about it. I’m sure there wouldn’t be any problem with the measurements. Only your h.i.p.s are a little smaller with Moyu’s, so I might have to alter that a little. You see, most of my dresses are done based on Tang Moyu’s measurements.”

“I see…” Luo Qingqing nodded in understanding. She thought that Tang Moyu was a big fan of the Black Nightingale as she was always seen wearing dresses made by the designer. 

To be honest when Tang Moyu called her late last night and asked if she was willing to work with the ‘Black Nightingale’, she needed to pinch her arm to make sure she wasn’t hallucinating. 

The Black Nightingale’s name was a big one within the fashion industry, but there weren’t many people who knew her real identity. For Tang Moyu to know such a person, obviously it surprised Luo Qingqing. 

Imagine her shock when the empress told her that she had already met The Black Nightingale in person as she was none other than Li Meili. 

“To be honest, I heard that Liu Ruoyan would be collaborating Xing Yiyue in the competition in an attempt to give her a comeback, but I cannot allow that to happen, Miss Luo,” Li Meili said truthfully. She couldn’t allow the woman who tried to destroy Tang Moyu to get a chance to return. 

Xing Yiyue might have not offended her personally, but the fact that she had schemed so much, causing humiliation to Tang Moyu wasn’t something Li Meili was willing to overlook. 

“I didn’t know that Miss Xing was acquainted with Miss Liu, but I’ll do my best to help you, Madam.” Luo Qingqing then realized that she truly didn’t know much about Xing Yiyue at all. But if she could do something to return the favor Tang Moyu had done for her in the past, she didn’t have any qualms to go against Xing Yiyue again. 

Perhaps, the runway stage would be the best place to settle the score between them once and for all. Didn’t Xing Yiyue try to pick a fight with her each time they met each other? Since they never got a chance to compete, Luo Qingqing wanted to prove that she wasn’t riding Xing Yiyue’s popularity. 

“That’s very reassuring to hear, Miss Luo. Don’t worry; I will make sure she won’t be able to outshine you this time.” The corner of Li Meili’s lips curled up in a smile, pleased to know that Luo Qingqing was willing to cooperate with her. 

“The event is in a week from now. The dress is already in Beijing. I hope you and your manager would be able to arrive the day before, so we can alter the measurements. As for the jewelry you are going to wear, Moyu said she is willing to lend us some from Xiao Xing.
