Jia Yuntao may be able to forgive him for what he had done in the past, but Feng Tianyi knew he couldn’t truly be free from the past that would surely haunt him someday. He was also not sure of what Tang Moyu thought of him now that she had witnessed the outcome of his horrible past actions towards the man she was acquainted with.

Jia Yuntao was able to forgive him, but that didn’t mean that the others would share the same sentiment. One of the reasons why he refused to come back here after his accident was to avoid being targeted by the people he’d wronged before.

There were so many of them who wanted his head on the silver platter. If he hadn’t gotten involved in that accident and met Tang Moyu, Feng Tianyi was sure that he would have been worse than before, and would continue living as the devil people would despise even more.

Tang Moyu asked him if it was alright if they stayed until dinner, as she wanted to spend more time talking with Jia Yuntao and Madam Ning, to which he easily complied. With the twins staying for the night at his mother’s, they wouldn’t have to worry about them waiting for their return late at night.

“Were you surprised? I know that not many would have done the same thing Miss Tang and Miss Lu did for our shelter. In fact, we didn’t expect that after Miss Tang’s short conversation with Mr. Jia, she easily complied and let Miss Lu carry out the arrangement for our humble shelter.” Madam Ning told Feng Tianyi as the latter helped the old woman to return the kitchen utensils back to their rightful place.

While it was true that some businessmen and companies used charities to improve their standing within the society, it wasn’t usual for a benefactor to get involved and be proactive to improve the charity they were supporting.

“Moyu never mentioned anything to me. If the shelter hadn’t sent their birthday greeting to our home, I would have no idea that she had done this.” Feng Tianyi admitted. His wife never failed to surprise him.

“She doesn’t talk as much as Miss Lu, but we could tell that she’s kind and gentle. I’ve never seen Miss Tang avoiding any patrons who sought her advice whenever she’s here.” Madam Ning said as she wiped the counters clean, while Feng Tianyi checked on his wife who was still conversing with Jia Yuntao.

There were times when he wondered if he deserved someone like her, that in the end, he might only cause her pain, like what he’d brought on her in the past. Whether he was aware of it or not, he was the catalyst that turned her world upside down years ago.

“You’re really deep in for her, aren’t you?” He heard Madam Ning say.

“Huh?” Feng Tianyi snapped his head and looked at the old woman with a confused expression on his face. He didn’t quite understand what she was talking about.

“I mean it’s obvious that you adore her. You look at her as if she’s the center of your universe.” Madam Ning said as if she understood his unspoken question.

“You can say that…” Feng Tianyi was also in disbelief that he would find himself under this circ.u.mstance. Before, women for him were just good for temporary companionship whenever he needed it. So he was also surprised at the intensity of what he felt for the empress.

“Love can make us do things that seem impossible, don’t you think? Either it could make us selfish that we want to possess all of them, or selfless just to be with them.” Madam Ning said cryptically with a slight smile. “Some may see love as a weakness, but they don’t fully understand it. Our drive to protect our loved ones is what makes us stronger.”

Feng Tianyi wasn’t sure why Madam Ning was telling him these, but nodded his head in understanding. Just like what she said, he was willing to do everything in his capability to make sure Moyu and their children would always be safe and happy.

“But I’m glad Miss Tang met someone like you. When I first met her, she just took over the company with Miss Lu. Her eyes spoke volumes even if she didn’t utter a word. I knew she was tired and sad, like there was a heavy burden on her shoulders. So, I’m glad to see her now with you, smiling like she has everything she ever wanted in her life.” Madam Ning paused and glanced at the direction of the empress before returning her attention back to Feng Tianyi.

“Thank you, Mr. Feng. Miss Tang might not be aware, but so many patrons here adore and look at her with respect. We also hope for the best in her life.”

The old woman gave him a polite bow, which shocked the devil. Was Tang Moyu’s relationship with these people that deep, that they regarded her in a high position?

“Oh, no, Madam Ning. You don’t have to do this. I love Moyu with all my heart and I’m not planning to break my promise to her, but thank you. Thank you for your concern for my wife.” He said.

Perhaps Tang Moyu had chosen to extend a hand to these people because she understood how hard it was for someone to lose everything. It’s almost impossible to start anew with all the problems they needed to deal with first and foremost.

He and Tang Moyu were lucky enough to restart their lives on their own. Given how much wealth was attached to their names, so it was easier for them to rise again, but how about those who were left with nothing like Mr. Yan?

If it was in the past, Feng Tianyi would surely laugh at their pitiful state. The person that he was now was the complete opposite of the devil that he was once before. He was afraid that that person would return.
