What Mrs. Yue had just said was full of intention meant to take a stab back at Mrs. Helan’s offensive comment. It was clear that she meant to say that it was not because Zhou Ning was ugly, it was because Qingsi was prettier than her.

That statement left a bitter aftertaste in both Mrs. Helan and Zhou Ning’s mouths as they were clearly offended since both of their expressions instantly turned sour. No woman in the world would not care about their physical appearance. However judging by what Mrs.Yue hinted at, she was only trying to be as polite as possible while simultaneously taking a jab at them. The only difference is, if she had every intention of being as blunt as possible, she could have pointed at her and told her that she is undeniably ugly.

Mrs. Yue’s offensive comeback was not the main point. The main point was Mrs. Helan had clearly seen through what Mrs. Yue intended to do in her selfless act to defend Yan Qingsi without much hesitation. Furthermore, the way she addressed Yan Qingsi clearly showed she had accepted her as family! She noticed Yan Qingsi had a very conflicted and confused look on her face.

Yan Qingsi could only stare at Mrs. Yue. completely stunned and unable to speak. She had never expected that Mrs. Yue would do something so selfless for her. Even more so, she defended her without hesitation. This act alone could tear down years of friendship built by Mrs. Yue and Mrs. Helan. ‘Why… must she treat me so well?’ Yan Qingsi thought to herself.

Yan Qingsi was completely surprised at how quick-witted Mrs. Yue was and how fast she reacted when she jumped to her defense.

She was completely overwhelmed by the wave of love. She felt in her heart and it was enough to warm her soul.

She was also unsure if Mrs. Yue was just messing around or if she had meant what she said. Regardless, Yan Qingsi felt a need to thank her deeply. Never in her life had anyone treated her like family and not to mention even proudly exclaiming that she was one of theirs.

Yue Tingfeng was seated to Yan Qingsi’s left. He extended his arm to hug her around the shoulders, showing everyone that she belonged to him. He simply laughed and said, “Aunty Helan, please forgive my mom, she has a habit of speaking her mind. She doesn’t like to keep anything in. She means well and this shows that she has a very kind soul. Please excuse her bluntness.”

Yue Tingfeng thought to himself. ‘Wow, it’s not every day that my mom gets to put on a show, and today, she opened her mouth and said something so snarky and smart at the same time. No mercy was shown, this is praiseworthy. I will be doubling her allowance for this month.’

Mrs.Yue played dumb and said, “Oh my… Did I say something wrong?”

Yue Tingfeng shook his head and replied, “Mom, you’re just being too honest. The truth can hurt sometimes, but since you and aunty Helan were friends for so long, I believe she knows how you usually act and surely she wouldn’t mind.”

The mother and son tag team felt like a perfectly choreographed stage play, it was so effective that Yan Qingsi had no need to even speak for herself.

Yan Qingsi felt content with how things were playing out as she licked the edge of her lips. This exchange was a first for her since she remained silent in a tense situation like this.

Yue Tingfeng’s explanation only made things worse. Zhou Ning was clearly fuming. What Tingfeng said could only mean that Mrs. Yue was quite honest in calling her ugly.

Mrs. Helan was desperately trying to keep her composure but her smile was slowly fading. However, the tense atmosphere was broken by someone entering the room at that very moment.

“Fangnian, you’re finally here. Come quick, take a seat. I was thinking of how Tingfeng must’ve felt being surrounded by a bunch of women and how uncomfortable he must’ve felt. So I called my son to join us.” Mrs. Helan said.

The first person Helan Fangnian notices upon entering the room was Yan Qingsi and Yue Tingfeng had his arms around her shoulders.

She was sitting in between Mrs. Yue and Yue Tingfeng and the image was burned into his brain. Their seating arrangement was as if they were a family of three. It hurt to see as jealousy coursed through his veins.

Mrs. Yue noticed Helan Fangnian just standing there, frozen in his thoughts. She teasingly said, “What is Fangnian Standing there for? Does he not know my son? Hurry up and sit down. Now that everyone is here, can we serve the food already? I believe everyone is hungry?”

Yan Qingsi saw Helan Fangnian entering the room, however, her expression had not changed much. The only thing she did was subtly pinch Tingfeng’s arm while Mrs. Yue gave him a stare as if she was telling him that his romantic rival has arrived and he should step up his game.
